hey guys,

on my new saint cranks i tried to undo the chain ring bolts to get off the 42t ring and put on a different one and i came to a problem, the bolts wouldnt budge. One of them i managed to get out with a struggle but the other 3 would not move and as a result i have stripped 3 of them. one of the 3 though can move but it just spins in its hole and doesnt undo from the back insert. so my question is; How can i get these 3 now stripped bolts out? more than likely the other 2 which will not move will do the same as the other which will but nust wont undo from its insert.

thanks in advance

were you using a chainring spanner on the nut?

Read that.

It's a common thing, and you need the tool to fit the nut on the back of the chainring bolt. (like bradh mentioned)

To help things along, spray some wd40 around the bolt area to penetrate it perhaps, and use a hairdryer to warm up the area very well before trying to undo the bolts. Might help loosen the bond, worked for me.

If they are stripped and mangled already, the best thing would be to just drill the bolts out carefully - destroy the bolts but make sure you don't damage the ring and spider. Then put some new ones in.
