One of my front pads has popped out and I'm having a devil of a time getting the little rascal back in again. As you can see in this first clip, the bottom part of the recess has a small metal tag sticking out, the pad sits under this. Yet in the opposing top section of the recess, the metal part has no tag to pull outwards. How the hell do you get these mongrels in.

A hammer and a block of wood would be my first choice.

wind both adjuster's right out then make a pad sandwich and they just clip in both at the same time

*edit*
just re looked at the pics pull that metal "tag" right out as it's the pad spreding spring you put it around both pads and then push it all in at once

And herein layeth the problem:

The spring which is that metal tag, only has that tag at one end. How do you open out the other end as to fit the pad underneath?

Let me know if I've explained that adequetly or not.

Cheers.

ok basicly pull the spring right out of the caliper so you have this:

(read these are xt pads you will look a lil diff)
http://www.nhd3.net/battle/userfiles/josh/IMG_1430.JPG

then put the spring around the pad like this:

then put the other pad ontop and put the whole thing back into the caliper at once

if you still dont understand let me know..

The spring comes out....of bloody course

The hours I've spent cursing these buggers with knives jambed in and jewelers screwdrivers trying to pry the little pricks open and all I had to do was pull 'em out.

Unbelievable.

Thanks very much for the help mate, appreciate it a lot.

PS, does that mean that XT pads fit in Avid calipers?

Thanks again!

no xt pads wont even go close to fitting but it's the only pads i have laying around cause i got ride of my avids but most brakes use the same pad spreading style just avid ones seem to stay in the caliper sometimes making life hard.

I did the same thing with my Juicy's, I just wasn't getting it until I had a good look at what was happening and it was easy when I figured it out.

I'm off to Mexico tomorrow!

EDIT: Mexico just got canned, spewing!!
