with the ever growning amount of people joining farkin growing daliy, new people to the sport join who have little knowlegde of bikes, the sport etc,i ask there be an area given to them so that other more knowledgeable people dont have reason to get annoyed and jump on them.As im sure that isnt wecoming to someone that is new to the sport

thats a good idea!
administrators kick into action!

only problem is will the older guys even go into that forum,
because if they dont it wouldnt be so helpfull for those posting in that forum
because they will be getting info from guys who "suposabley" have no idea

I agree with Exvitermini, the only problem I see being there would almost need to be Moderator supervision all the time.

Mainly to control all the fully sik leet talk. And to stop them all getting over excited and exploding.

Good idea though.

Hey guys,

I'm new to the sport and i'm always looking for new topics that'll teach me basics from maintenance to what does that part on the bike do to getting familiar with brands etc.

I think it would be an excellent idea...

Exvitermini.... do you have those PHAAAT cars(skyline, supra)??? Youve got that site with vids and info about your cars?

Personally I don't see Farkin wanting to add too many new forums as there's a heap already. I aslo would prefer to see questions getting asked in the correct and current forums and the mods/admins jumping on those members who attack noobs just for asking questions that those older members think are stupid.

That's my plan at least... to stamp out intolerance here on Farkin... so remember... there are NO stupid questions, only stupid answers. Although I have to say since joining Farkin my belief in this has been shaken more than once.

Although I have to say since joining Farkin my belief in this has been shaken more than once.i prefer ask a stupid question and you will get a stupid answer. it's usually not too hard to tell who is looking for help with a real problem and who is just being too lazy to put any effort/research in themselves.

There's no stupid questions, only inquisitive idiots :D
IMO, no need for a newbie section, just a need for members to realise that they won't get spoonfed all the time, and that searching and reading previous threads is a great way to learn. A bit of tolerance and patience with experienced members will go a long way too.

Think of this.........
Everyone who asks a question gets slammed for being a stoopid Noobie and not using the search function.
Everyone stops asking questions.
No one posts anymore.
Farkin just becomes an archive of gravedigs re read over and over again with old info.
Hmmmmmmmmm

I think, as easy as it is to slam a dopey question or a repost of a recurring question..... Isn't it easier for an experienced Farkiner to just cruise past and think "must be a newbie" and leave it at that?

I'm going back to my beer now.

^^^ the problem with that many dont do it...and do jump on others.i wouldnt be asking for it if the above was the case.but as it isnt the case.i can see the point in not opening a new section for them.i just see to many people jumping on to the "new guys"

btw that site isnt mine i would love to take responability for gt700, and the other cars on exvitermini.com...but as its not me i cant.i stole it off him as i liked what it means in latin.
"with strength(power,etc) comes responabilites"

Haha.. I hate Harry Potter.

Yea that GT700 is amazing. Awesome videos on that site!

Back to topic, I was thinking last night that it would be good to have a sticky for beginners to read.

This would consist of posts from you knowledgable people on parts of a bike, what they do, cons/pros etc..

For example me being a newb I don't know what makes a good chain, cassete, stem etc. I guess that will come from using/buying other bikes but how often do you get to do that(in my case at least).

So I was thinking as a brief example it could have a few main points like:

Cassets:

Purpose: To blabla bla

Common problems:

Maintenance:

What to look for when buying: "Make sure its made out of blabla as it wont break"

Common brands:

Photo's too would be good.

I know theres a 'Parts 'n Stuff / What Should I Buy?' section but it's too specific to learn about the parts in whole.
Yea i guess you guys get the idea... It'll be a tedious/slow thing but I reakon it would be absolute gold!

Cheers,

Steve
