Hey guys,
Just wondering is anyone has had any experience in actually shipping a bike back home to Aus, not just taking it with you on the plane. What carrier did you use and how much approx did it cost? My issue is that I ain't comming home via North america but I am going to england for a week so, my baggage limit reduces from 32kg to 10kg!

I'm just in the middle of this right now......I sent my bike to Geneva via airfrieght to avoid the excess baggage deal with the airlines. It cost me $380 using a freight forwarder in Melbourne to fly it to their agent in Switzerland.
However now I'm home in Aus and waiting for my bike to return via the same method, it will be here on Monday and I will tell you what I get stung with from Aussie customs to clear it. The agent here tells me its always more expensive to bring a bike back into Aus than out. For some reason its a whole different kettle of fish. I'm your guinnea pig, once I've laid down the hard earned, I let you know the damage and any good ways around spending any more than you have to..

if it's coming into oz with a freight company, make sure it's spotless, and try to avoid labelling it as a 'used bicycle' or even as a 'second-hand bicycle' on the customs form. (however, i don't really have any suggestions as to an alternative.) i bought a bike from the states and had it shipped with a freight company; airport taxes, duties and gst came to about $70 or 80 or something (mind you, it was probably rather undervalued on the customs declaration), but because it was a 'used bicycle', it attracted oz quarantine's attention... the package was quarantined for two and half weeks, and i was charged about $250 for the privilege.
