i've had my new bike for four months now, and the grips were brand new. but i now have a problem. One of the grips is worn, and the other isn't!!!!!! my left hand has worn the crap throught the grip really fast, and the right is perfectly fine! i'm gonna switch them, but i was just wondering if it has happened to anyone else, or whether i'm just reatarted. oh, and i'm right handed, so wtf?

nah your just a retard ;)

thats weird, i havent heard of it hapening before

i wonder if the grip was dodgy, like a factory reject or somthing. I guess the way to tell is to swap them like you said and see if that one wears out too

maybe you grip one of the grips a lot harder or something, i know my right ones always wear a tiny bit faster

you may be right handed, but this just proves that you use your left hand more....try swapping hands...

Maybe it's because your right hand grips alot harder that it wears less, because it rubs less while your left hand slips around alot and actually wears down the rubber. Never heard of it happening that badly though. but yeah just switch em' around or go buy a new set, whichever you can be bothered to do, although I'd reccomend you get new grips because using worn grips is a bad thing.

it's not a dodgy grip, i know that. i worked it out though:
my right hand doesnt grip as hard, because the arm is stronger? (i just went for a ride out in the street and worked it out). the left overcompensates too much for being weaker and grips hard ass. my right arm moves around with the bike, where my left is really stiff, making it rub more when the bike moves.
even with all this, i'm surprised how quik it went. 4 months and almost to the bar, but thee others in perfect nick.
Does this happen to any one else?

This happened with my current set of grips, the left is worn like hell and the right is perfectly fine almost.
I constantly have one finger on the rear brake, so the movement there might be an issue. Also ive been running rear brake only until recently, so going for the same brake all the time while keeping the other hand firmly on the grip might play a part....

is it a dh bike, coz your back brakes need to be held onto, thus giving a smaller area to hold onto, thus making you hold on harder, thus wearing out the grip.
but it shouldnt happen in that much of a scale
give up some piccy's if u can.

And so the mystery of the worn out grip began...

Well have a think, it obviously means that your working one hand harder on that grip than the other. Unless a one-armed bandit comes and steals your bike for a session every now and then ;)

maybe because your shifter is on the right hand side (one chain ring on the front) you hold the grip less firm whilst shifting!

i kind of have the same thing

i always turn my left grip more... ever since i had my first small bmx, every bike i have had, the left grip has always twisted around.

still do it on my kona now :)

i have no idea why. if it helps everyones research, i'm right handed.

Strangely enough, no matter where I am I can see it quite clearly :p

lol where is the centre of the universe exactly?
Probably has something to do with the gravitational force exerted by a body being proportional to it's size... :p
