Got back from doctors not long ago, after having a fingernail surgically removed. Was helping some other 3riders moves a long thin slab of concrete for a run in to a cool stairgap, and sommmmmebody pushed the slab too fast and my left index finger got crushed between two 300+kg concrete slabs. I was luckily wearing my beasty carbon gloves (which got slightly ripped :( ), and proceedeed to jump up and down and curse the damn spartans. Unfortunately, as I took of my glove, I was greeted with a pulsing blood run over my hand, and what seemed like a nicely gashed finger. Anyway, ran home crying, got it cleaned up, went to doctors, where I was under anasethetic and the fingernail had to be removed seeing as most of it was severed at the root. It fuckin' hurts. All bandaged up now, but I'm living on painkillers and antibiotics. :( whoops. Don't scold me, but the whole moving concrete slab idea wasn't as stupid as it seems to you guys. The stairgap will be hit in fury soon!

ouch man, i feel your pain. Same happened to me sorta, friend of mine jumped off a bunk bed with his shoes on, and landed on my big toe (i wasnt wearing shoes- it was in a cabin). Killed my toenail, bled fuckin everywhere. So i thought i better clean it up, and my friend had the smart idea of squeezing the alcohol out from one of those wipe things under my toenail (as it was bleeding from there). Pain.
And then 2 months later the toenail fell off and now it wont grow back properly ever again :(
but damn that looks so incredibly painful!

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm living on painkillers at the moment, otherwise it's impossible to sleep or concentrate on anything at all. The initial pain was bad...but the doc sticking a needle into my knuckle probably hurt more!
Also, you'd be surprised how painful it is to type this good currently

ouch... looks like it did a good job. my dad got his finger nail jammed at work, and when he went to the doctor (dr. death) he just got his pliers and rippe the nail out... now we do go to this doctor anymore...
good luck

Yeah it bloody hurts doesn't it. i had to have half an infected toenail removed permanently so it won't grow back. But having the needle in ya big toe probably hurts the most. I was on antibiotics for it for a while and they didn't do shit as I could barely walk on my foot it was so delicate. It's funny though all I felt while I watched the doctor slice and dice up my toe with the scalpel and scrape in under the skin between the nail and groove of skin was a tapping on my toe.

Update, its going pretty well now, can ride again fairly painless. Still looks a bit off though, will take a picture of it when I change the bandage next. Fingernail = so slowwwww to grow... I wish it was juicy enough so I could squirt pus at people who look at me funny, though. ;)

yeah what he said^^ wait till you do something cool like 15 stitches in your arm where your bloody elbow guard was supposed to protect but instead ended up in your armpit, or dislocating your wrist! if any of you have done this to your wrist you'll know my pain......so many tendons are definitly not supposed to stretch that far

6 months on...
as most of you probably know, got my left index finger stuck in bike disk rotor. cut off the fingertip at around the white bit at the base of the nail. Plastic surgery, god knows how many stitches.
The result, pics below 6 months on, i can ride my bike etc as normal, i still subsonciously protect it, eg i wont use it for typing without even realising. Apparently i'll get over that though.
The last 2 pics are the underside where the skin graft was taken from, red is there it went to, blue is where it came from. 2nd pic is a comparison now between the same finger on opposite hands.
Good fun, highly recommended.

yeah nice maffew, because i cut it just above the nail ending it allowed the nail to grow back, they just whacked some skin on the end of the finger to extend it and the nail grew back fine.
