You don't need no stinkin' blocker. In Messenger under the options box in the main panel, unclick "show MSN at startup" and pop-ups-r-no-longer-u.

Yes.. haha i didn't fall for this one.. then again I usually don't, but now I've probably jinxed it.. If a few people send you the EXACT same text, same link and all.. I don't trust it.. I Usually question it..

heres what you gotta do. if you go into where its stored, it says it wont delete it because it's being used eleswhere. so, you have to delete it on your history first, and then you can go delete it off of where its stored.
i hope that makes sense :p

BLOCK CHECKER

its easy to get rid of...(with xp anyway)

Quick Fix( band aid)
go ctrl+alt+delete and click on block checker and end task, done..

longer way... go
Run, type in "msconfig",start up tab and click on the block checker box before restarting...

3rd way(i didnt do this, but a friend told me it works)
edit you reg files and get rid of anything with block checker worded into it....

i also noticed that if you search block checker(on your computer) it will come up with a read me file with a list of people you have sent it on to...

now for the other one...
i have had that one,but another friend has still got it...any ideas for it her virus checker doesnt like it but wont get rid of it....

warning: im am not a computer nerd and do not work in a shop.so this is only what i have personaly found works without side effects...

Try Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html).
I'd be curious if that doesn't work.

Nod32 (http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm) also has a 30-day trial, which should rid you of any residules.

well for those who bother to install the BSD subsystem along with OS X, they would know that you can fire up your computer in verbose mode and go straight from the command line the whole way. its not jsut about clicking pretty icons you know. ;)

You know OSX has been ported to x86 don't you?
Besides, this isn't a pissing contest so take your crapple talk elsewhere.

isnt apple turnin to intel processors?

W2ttsy
23-08-2005, 09:57 AM
yes i know that there is an x86 port, they have been running two versions since the public beta release in 1999. and while there is an x86 developer release that has been hacked to work on non apple branded intel machines, it wont get past a development build. mainly due to the DRM apple is instituting to stop this, but also because specific bus systems wont be available on PC motherboards.

and yes, there is an intel chip coming out that will replace the PPC 970 currently being used in the g5s. its a varient of the Itanium processor that intel used in its large scale server machines, and it will be modified so that it requires a mac rom in order to run the OS.

i remember sitting up till 2.00 am to watch this keynote webcast (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/wwdc05/). quite an amazing feat on behalf of apple. to get OS X to run on an x86 based proc, and not only run apple apps, but run PC apps using the rosetta emulation (hardware based). that and also release the universal binary standard for developers.
with the click of a button, developers can cross compile their apple applications to a PC varient in under 2 hours, with no fiddling of code. now if you want to talk about developer innovation, its clear that Apple have and always will shit all over microsoft in this realm.

also, there are thousands of mac apps that will do about anything you want. apart from the "games" that arent mac compatable, you will find there is a tool for almsot anything out there. in fact there are more specialist applications available to mac users (due to them being unix apps), making the OS X platform a premier choice for science fields, and design fields such as graphics, film and audio.
maya, was linux, now mac os x too.
logic pro, was linux, now mac os x too.
shake, was linux, now mac os x too.
motion, was linux, now mac os x too.

the realm of "omg its the slow shit computer in the IT lab that no one uses" is now gone. unless you are running a stupidly expensive PC with a very good optomisation of windows  you will find it very hard to compete with a high end mac.

and for those hanging on to the "you cant customise a mac", maybe you need to head over to the .au apple store (http://apple.com.au/store) and play with the build to order options. apart from the mobo, and processor, anything can be changed to how you desire.

sure we pay thru the nose for the privelege, but its a freaking great privelege to be offered.

not trying to start a shit fight here, but thought the information might be handy for some people to know.

Respect! Mac's shit on all other computers. Not once have I had to clean the HD of a virus; the computer doesn't allow them in the first place. OK so it doesn't play as many game. So what? Why sit inside infront of a screen when there's plenty of better things to do? (e.g. ride:p)

I second this notion. Buy a Mac

Used a mac for years until I got to uni and found out nobody else used it, apart from a guy I met in physics who worked in the uni mac lab. Even he though I had lived a sheltered life.

When it came time to roll my own custom operating system for a high-speed mobile robot, I ditched Mac and windows and went Linux, which I still use a bit. Plus, it was a great laugh working on my thesis using a robot as a word processor

Besides, these days macs are less like usable PCs and more like cheap plastic jewelry, plus they are ditching their awesome RISC architecture and going to stupid, overcomplex x86. I fearlessly predict that in 5 years time Apple will be the iPod company if they keep this sort of trend up.

W2ttsy
23-08-2005, 06:30 PM
unfortunately, the main reason that apple are ditching the beloved RISC architecture is due to the cost and power these chips are using. plus IBM has hit a roadblock and the processor road map is not looking good at all. so Apple has moved to Intel.

im sure that they will put the apple spin on things that makes everything so good to use.

as for the complexity of x86, unless you are programming at an assembly level, youre not really going to notice the difference. processors are so fast now, that the negligible differences in speed that RISC offered over CISC are now disappearing.

now, thats being a nerd naz :p

I seem to remember hearing somewhere that Pentium processors use RISC pipeline processing, then put a CISC interpreter in front to make it backward compatible with an 8086/8088 made before most of you guys where even born. Crude and ugly, but seems to work.

Quote from one of my uni lecturers in the early 90's
It is impossible to simultaneously understand and respect respect architecture.

to get rid of it follow the following steps:
1.go into program files
2.find the folder "block-checker"
3.try and delete the folder
(if the file comes up with an eror that it can not be deleted)
4.open windows task mannager(Ctrl+Alt+Delete)
5.click on processes tab
6.look for an image name called "block-cheker"
7.highlight the image and press End Process
8.Delete the folder mentioned in steps 1 & 2
9.well done you are now virus free

sounds like there is a registry key that is getting loaded at startup. id be poking round reg edit looking for evidence of this virus.

you may have to terminate any current processes this virus has running before you can delete or modify it tho. check the task manager (control alt delete) to see if its running.
