Hey, need a bit of help here.
Recently we set up a broadband wireless internet connection in our house which has 2 computers connected to it, mine through a USB cable and another through a USB wireless card, the internet works fine on both these comps..
Is it possible to use this set-up as a network between the 2 computers?
The wireless modem is a Siemens SpeedStream.
How would I go about setting it up as a network?
Cheers

are you talking someting like the iBurst wireless? EVDO technology? or is it a broadband modem in to a wireless router that you then connect to?

dunno about the Iburst or EVDO, but the modem is a wireless router.

Running XP?

To make your computers "See each other"
Right Click 'My Computer'
Click 'Computer Name' Tab
Click the 'Change' Button
Give the computer a name
Give it a workgroup name (ensure the workgroup name is the same across all computers)

To share files/folders...

Right click a folder, click 'Sharing and Security' and enable sharing for that selected item.

To access these items on the computers..Start, Run "//Computer Name"

Computer Name being the name of the computer with the files/folders you want to access.

This would have to be the easiest way.

This would have to be the easiest way.

If it's XP...the easiest way is just go to 'my network places' ... and then click on 'set up a home or small office network' in the sidebar, and just follow the steps in the wizard. It goes through the whole giving your computer a name and all that stuff, so it's all pretty simple. And if it doesn't work just rerun the wizard and try some of the other choices that it gives you for your network setup (ie. LAN, connected directly to the internet, wireless...etc etc)

And if you don't have XP...you can always just grab the cd of someone else and run the same network setup wizard, as it can be run from the XP installation cd for older versions of windows.

We have XP on one comp and 98 on another.
I ran the wizard on both comps last night, and when my comp booted back up a bunch of files were missing from the PCI card driver and I cant get on the net anymore...
dunno what happened there and now it wont let me reinstall the driver for the PCI card
