hey, whats the proper way to air out of qtrs. As in go up in the air, do a 180 and go back down the qtr. I tried it the other day and only rear wheel went above the qtr when i did the 180, do i have to lean forward more or bunnyhop higher?

well you could start by spelling them correctly>>>>>*QUARTER*<<<<<<

took me a little while to figure out what the hell you were on about...

think the weight needs to be back a bit more. try hitting them with more angle to start with.
i.e. carve up the quarter at around 45 degrees, and don't aim for large amounts of hieght. this will give you more confidence in getting above the coping. once your comfortable with being smooth, decrees the angle gradually.

don't worry bout constantly hitting the same thing over and over either, as atleast bmx'ers and stuff will be able to tell your trying to improve.
make sure that you pick a one to practice on, so your not in other people's way.

so heres my opnion -

learning to air them is pretty much a balls manouvre, -people can tell you all sorts of stuff but the fact still remains you need to try and learn your own way.

So here's my advice -the weight back before quarter means you land below the coping more in the tranny -Dont do.
Bascially the best way to do it is to hit it fairly centred on the bike, go straight up then when about mid 180 lean back to ensure front is over coping -remember to let the coping work for you....
Re-entering is pretty weird when learning, you gotta get your front into the quarter -not too far down it though, tuck your back an inch or two to ensure you dont get hung up. As hasta said, use the angle thing but if you hit with too mellow of angle expect to washout whether you land clean or not.

another tip would be try to find a variety of heights with quarters -ie if you could find a 4 five foot quarter that leads onto a seven or six, learn by airing out of five and landing in six -it will teach you to relax upon re-entry.

Expect some stacks but its like everything progressive-its the mistakes that help you master it.

trust the copoing, let your front wheel hit it and it will bonk you back slightly and get you in the right position.

start on a ramp of maybe 6', too much smaller and you really need to bunnyhop to get any air and you start to develop bad habits.

^^^ it doesnt matter what sized quarter it is, its just about the tranny/curve on it, if you can find an almost vert 4 foot thats great but ive ridden not vert 14 foot quarter which you still have to hop on to air ie kiama skatepark -just find a mellow curved quarter that is vert or close to at the top and practice practice practice

that was just a generalisation, 6' is about the size where they start to become nice to air, much smaller and they're too tight or don't come close to vert and are more harsh if you pull out too far from the coping when you land.
