Since I started riding my stinky I've been having the occasional problem with my chain slipping when I'm giving the pedals some beans over rough stuff. It hasn't really been much of a problem as I don't generally pedal over little drops or rocky stuff, but I was watching a mate having a run on my rig yesterday and the amount of movement and slack in the chain I saw freaked me out a bit. Another mate is running a DMR chain reactor ( http://www.dmrbikes.com/products/chaindevices/chainreactor.html ) on his hardtail which seems pretty sweet, and I've been thinking about getting one to put on the stinky. It's great on the hardtail, but I don't know if it'd be as great when it has rear suspension to deal with.

Does anyone know how well the DMR would perform on a stinky? Are there any good or better alternatives? I had a look at the Evil Twin or whatever on their website and it looked pretty friggin perfect, but I don't really wanna spend 2 or 300+ buXXors.

I'm running the stock 03 stinky set up; middle and granny chain rings with a bash guard, and I don't really wanna go a full DH chain device as I do occasionally "like" to pedal uphill if it's not too harsh.

I use that setup on my hardtail too only mine was the full guide(top and bottom). I cut the top part of the boomerang off and replaced it with a derailer. On the bottom i use a stepped roller simliar to the one pictured to give a bit better support when in the granny gear.
Not the best set up but should work OK.

It may look dodgy but it has one massive advantage over all other guides. It's stainless steel and therefore can be bent back into shape if it ever gets a whack in the wrong direction.

buy an MRP ... a copy that is of course :)

only 120 from tomac boy and it dose the job ... i garuntee it is impossible to loose the chain unless you smash it on something and the roller brakes

also they look MAD

Would it be possible to borrow the DMR guide from your mate to see if it works on your Stinky?
If it doesn't at least you haven't wasted any money.

Yeah, I was thinking of doing that, dirt devil. It's a bit of a hassle to take it off, attatch it, test ride, take it off again, re-attach it though. I might try and bribe this dude with a couple of beers and see how the idea goes down.
