im thinkin it works like this
wheelie = pedaling whiles on the back wheel using your speed to keep you up.
mono = no pedaling invoved only using your weight to center the bike and keep it on its back wheel.
i think thats the way it should work
cauz i believe the have different meanings
but thats just me
well you must have a vague idea since this is a quote from you ^^^^

IMO a mono is a wheelie, riding on the back wheel, seated and pedalling.
But to do a hop, you would have to be upright and doing a manual (legs and arms extended, controlling bike through balance not pedalling and braking).
It takes practice, you have to lean back alot upon landing the hop, remember that you will control most of the hop with your wrist action, much like a normal bunny hop. Just PRACTICE :).
Cheers,
Ken

woohoo, an old school word! :D
monohopping is when you lift the front wheel 1st then the back.
bunnyhopping is lifting both wheels off the ground at the same time.
These terms have changed a bit over the years, but way back in 70's/80's they were the two terms used quite often.
the term manual comes from skaters :o - In the old days in biking a manual was called a coaster wheelie ;)

if jamsta is on the money, its about balance. can you mono well? the way i find the best for this is just to get your wieght back and bring the front up with you, and when you've got your wieght over the back wheel just learn forward and use your feet to get the back up. Makes clearing things so much easier! and you do heaps of variations, you get some nice height too...

Lean back, pull up, when the front wheel is at it's highest point according to the strength you put into pulling it up; spin your grips forwards and lightly throw your weight forward, this will get the back wheel off the ground. You are aiming to get both wheels off the ground at the same height to get over an object. If you have a search around google for trials techniques and shit, they'll explain it very well.

Unless you wheelie seated for however long then stand up and manual for a split second then hop. Yes my manuals leave alot to be desired, its actually starting to shit me considering I can wheelie, well fairly good.
