Has anyone done dh at night?? It beats ridin the town at night, and with this shitty lack of sunlight in the afternoons, its a good way to still do downhill without being restricted by the light. Are we the only ones doin it or what???

Na, we do it a fair bit through winter.
It is fun and totally changes your experience on the track

Which nights do you do it? I should take the lights off my XC bike and join you. We ride some of the DH trails at glenrock as a part of our night XC loop.
Question though, how do you attach the light to a full face helmet? Do you tape it on or have some other method.

we usually go on thurs night to glenrock, shitter or howards. I dont attach the light to my full face, i use an xc helmet. Its only glenrock, no real need for full face, if we were doin amazon then maybe things would be different.
You'd be suprised how much light you dont need to see the track clearly. But a helmet light is a must....you can spend a shitload on a good set giving you one 15w helmet, 2 x 5w bar lights or you could buy a halogen lamp (20 or 50w) from jaycar and a 12v 7ah battery for less than $50 which gives you a brighter light anyway, and the battery will last for about 45mins RIDING TIME.

So how do you attach the light? to your hlemet or your bars?
Is that $50 bucks for both cause I was looking at getting some lights for $500 bucks but 50 sounds heaps better on the wallet. :D

i got a sealed Pb acid battery for $36 and the two 50watt 12v lights for a couple of bucks. I used some lightweight cabling from an old dc adapter and a basic switch ($1) to connect it. You'll need a charger for the batt too, which'll cost ya about the same as the batt. Jaycar can help with all the tech crap.
Mounting the light you'll have to work out yourself cos i used a bit of scrap metal and cable tied it to my helmet. I also got one to mount on the bars but when you run a 50watt halogen lamp with a 12v 7amp battery, you don t really need the extra light, or the heat.
I couldnt justify spending 500bucks on a set of lights that i would only use for downhill runs. And if the light gets damaged, i only gotta fork out a couple of bucks to get a new lamp anyway. sorted.

Night riding is rad, i've done it before on kuranda Dh...I had a blue led light with a strap...took my visor off and strapped it there, didn't budge the whole time...duct tape holds together the universe!

I'd say that you'd strap it to your helmet somehow, as the light would go to where your looking not where your bikes facing. But i spose, You could have both helmet and bars.
A couple of lads from our local club (J5ive, Rockyash, Dazonic) did one of our tracks at about 9pm at night. I think they all got down in one piece, however their homejobby lights may not have.

If you only have one light then put it on your helmet NOT your bars. I put it on my bars and almost died because i couldnt see around the corner as i was turning i had to guess and wait for my bike to straighten up.
