The best DH forks ever made are the Manitou X-Vert Carbon!
Not only the lightest production DH fork ever but also looks to kill and the most buttery smooth feel ever. If maintained properlly they still work as good as ever and can also have SPV damping put in them. Can't go wrong!

2002 Super T.

Upsides:
Light - 2.6kg, over 100g lighter than an AIR Boxxer
Stiff enough for my riding style, dont feel like noodles, nor do they feel like my tyre will roll off when i corner
I cant bottom them, yet they seem so soft
Have to be one of the best forks ive ridden and felt, so damn smooth and consistant, thrives on the carpark testing :p
VERY reliable, never, ever had a problem with them

Downsides:
7inches, do you really need 8 anyway?
So damn low, makes quite a few dh frames feel steep
2-piece lowers, few have had problems coming appart?

I seriously rate these forks.

I honestly have to say my 2001 DH2 White Bro's never had to touch them.....and damn they worked great!!!

hmmm, I've never heard of a BOOXER TEAM? Quite a few people reckon they're pretty good by the looks of poll results though. :p

Depends on riding style, cost, & personal preference - for me it's my 888's.

DH Forks I'd like to try:
fox 40's
boxxer WC
Avalanche DHF-8
The air boxxer when they get here
888 RC2X

DH Forks I've riden:
My 04 888's
My 03 super T pro
Shiver DC
Boxxer Race
Shock Works

From what i've ridden, i'd list them like this:

1- Fox 40.

2- Manitou Dorado DH (not the SPV one).

3- 888 with flat crowns.

4- 05 Boxxer Race.

5- 888 with standard crowns.

6- Sherman Slider plus.

The Fox kills everything out there in terms of feel, reliability and adjustability, not to mention quality and weight. I loved mine- at first it felt too linear and after a few rides it seemed to have dialled itself. The problem is that they're too stiff for their size, and thats going to be a problem if you crash or ride rough- it's a penalty to pay for something so light and so stiff. For 05/6 Fox has revised the lowers, with extra webbing for no weight penalty, which will hopefully sort everything out.

The Dorado is the best fork if you are willing to spend some hours rebuilding it. It's not light, nor is it stiff, and it's not going to last for someone who crashes. BUT, they are easy to tune and adjust, and when they're sorted they're a winner. They've been phased out, so i guess the Travis will have a lot to live up to.

Now the 888... it can be good or shit. They're great forks once the crown is changed- stiff, solid, and not too heavy, and with the flat crowns they sit at the same height as other DH forks. Without the crown, they're just too damn tall, and even running more sag doesn't help this. That said, the integrated stem fits the same line- it's cool that it can lower the front end more, but at the same time the use of shims doesn't really appeal. Again, for 06 flat crowns are standard, and revised lowers, so out of the box you've got a sweet fork.

Boxxers are pretty much the staple fork. Light, cheap and relatively foolproof. Theres nothing special going on and they're easy to work on. The 06 World Cup is definately the best boxxer i have ridden, and i have to say that if i had the money that would be my prime choice, even over the 40.

Finally the Sherman Slider. SPV... what can i say? When they do run TPC they're sweet as, but without it they're useless. Ask brodes- he changed to a boxxer and can't feel every rock and bump. Thank god Manitou have dropped it for 06.

There are no really bad DH forks out there (except anything with SPV...), and i think with some tuning you can set a fork up to feel as you want. Hell, i've just changed from a 40 to a Boxxer Race and i am still happy, and with some mods i'll be stoked... it just shows.

oi dropkick, who you calling noob? do you even fuking know what it means?didnt think so. fuck up or piss off.

why would i start a poll and list every brand and model of dh fork ever made, not only would this be a pointless excursise but you can only have 10 possible alternates!!!!! thats why i left one saying to post up what it is.

i left out sherms on perpose alright, they are not dh forks (some may argue the jrn/super T's or any of the others arnt either but hey). they are free ride forks, and the reason why there are som many of them is because they are cheap and come stock on many popular bikes.

hmmm, I've never heard of a BOOXER TEAM?

Maybe he has a pommy accent?

IMO Fox 40 RC2's are the best.

Good Reasons:
8" of Travel(Can be adjusted to 6 and a half".)-One of the lightest 8" DH forks weighing in at 3.08kg, But, for 2006, the boxxer world cups take the weight weenie prize with a weight of 2.67kg!!!

40mm stauncions-Stiffer, and stronger.

Coil spring preload, External high and low speed compression and external rebound compression.

Comes stock with Ti spring

Look cool.

Come with flat crown.

Bad reasons:

Lowers apparently break to easy in a big crash.

No other reasons:confused:
-------------------------------------------------

I know a lot of people have images of "good" DH forks, and i know a lot of my mates immediatly think "Dorados!" when i say "Good DH fork" but i honestly am not a great fan on dorados, i would prefer a set of 888's which i am also not to keen on over dorados, because they are lighter, IMO stronger and feel better.

Basically what im trying to say is people have different preferances when it comes down to "The Ultimate DH fork", weather you Like 40s like me or Boxxers, Dorados, ect, everyone has a unique riding style, and there is a product out there to suit nearly everyone, but it may not suit all.

Cheers, Drew.

I can't believe no one has said this yet, It mostly comes down to personal preferance when you get to the top few forks. Also depends if your gonna do any other riding. But if your talking about the best dh specific fork, from what I've heard regular Dorados are the best, the ones with tpc damping.

hahaha...somones cut cos i use netvet terms

noob or n00b
An insult term, derived from 1337 speak (Elite speak). Reffered to as someone who is new to a game - but is more widely used as a general insult. Usually gets spouted by an elitist (leet player), or bad players that can't accept losing (and call everyone noobs for beating him).
Mainly originated from the popular anti-terrorist (or anti-counter-terrorist...), Counter Strike.
l33t or leet
Abreviated form of the word "elite" often used in chatrooms and message boards; though mainstream popularized by the games Quake and Counterstrike, where the l33t routinely fragged the hell out of lamers (noobs)

convinced ?

:) the 888's are such a beautiful fork, and marzocchi are known for the longevity and insane quality of their forks, they have the experience in manufacturing incredible high end forks to back up the 888's and together with their history of MOTO-X forks i would say the 888's are the top notch for me

i love horses. im just one of those guys that.. well, loves horses

Hey Dudes the best DH forks will be the Manitou Travis forks. The weight is only 6.9kg, the the retail price for the top of the rang Ti model will be only $1800. Compare that to fox 40.

If your keen to test some i will have them in stock and on an Intense m3 in store that you can test ride, so feel free to check them out at M.B.S (My Bike Shop). 3355 0112 Jay Taylor.

1999 or 2002 Monster T. They have one major failing, that being the immense 4.475kg weight, however they have quite a low axle to crown height, are extremely plush with good performance on big and small bumps, and have second to none stiffness which guarantees steering precision.

IMO, marzocchi should re-engineer said 1999 fork, stretch it to 8", fit a cart out of the new RC2X and convert one leg to air springing (instead of a big diameter full length steel coil and 380-400ml of oil! which both legs have stock) ... They could likely bring the weight down into the 3.7kg range and have an absolutely bombproof, fool proof, incredibly stiff fork.

The Best DH fork IMO is Avalanche !

The DHF 7 or 8 for DH racing and the DHF mtn version or the BIG MTN-8 fork for the hardcore stuff (but the 2 last guys are heavy).

The DHF 7 and 8 can be fitted with Tispring and with only 1 damper unit in order to cut down weight. USD forks are just nice :)
