Do you have the address for the skate park?
Also, what is the expected date of completion?

hey guys,
i just got off the phone with hornsby council where i was making inquires about the park, and they notified me that BMX will not be allowed at this park, they said due to it being too dangerous
they also said that to enforce this rule they will be employing security to check on the park atleast once every 2 hours and if you are caught riding your bike they will enforce a $50 on the spot fine.
this is fucking ridiculous and i think we should all get together and email them our thoughts because this is just unfair.

"Orright mate, I'll just go get my wallet from my bag over by that tree"
*Pedal Pedal Pedal... Reach down behind the tree....... PEDAL PEDAL!*
Then go get something to eat.
On a serious note, that's pretty unfair...

So they're spending a stack of ratepayers' money to provide a facility for the local youth, then spending even more money to ensure that most of them can't use it...?
(yeah, most of them... skating died out in the 80s... :p)
Are BMXers being expected to foot the bill? Will this 'fine' be miraculously abolished once the apparently more affluent BMX riders have paid for the park?
A BMX costs more than a skateboard, you know. Lots of shiny bikes out there. Must have cost their parents a lot. Hmmm...
Dangerous my arse. Dangerous is idiot parents letting their helmetless 4 year old roll around in the bottom on a scooter with loose quick releases.
- Get a petition going. I'll happily sign it, even though I probably won't be using said facility.
- Ring around other councils, ask if there are any restrictions concerning equipment use at skateparks in their area.
I'd be very surprised if this restriction was in place (or actively enforced) anywhere else.
- Get the local bike shops involved as well.
- I'm sure the local paper would love to hear from you.
- BMX is now an Olympic sport. (Yeah ok, that's pushing it a little, but every bit helps.)
- Take your protest to Hornsby Council, with the angle that BMXers and skaters seem able to co-exist in relative harmony at every OTHER skatepark in Sydney / NSW / other cities / states / etc.
(There will always be the odd incident / idiot, but that happens everywhere in life. Don't mention it though.)

probably a grave dig but is the bmx ban true?
Well because its not officially open yet we are not sure as to whether or not it is going to be a skateboard only park.

I emailed the council about it.
Here is the reply:
"Yes you can ride your bike. Obviously we want everyone to have a good time so avoiding conflict with skaters and bikes is very important. The park is for everyone though. "

Do you think that will conflict with the fact we want a park in turramurra?
(for people who know what I'm talking about)
naa it wont meppem, the park thats being in thornleigh has been planned for ages and its meant to be built by x-mas. and its not soley designed on bikes like the turramurra park will be

The skate park design has been changed from the original idea:
