View Full Version : Shadow Conspiracy SS conversion
I know there are alot of SS conversions of STP's on line, but this conversion was done without a tensioner and it runs real nice. The BMX chain (made by the Shadow Conspiracy) used is made up of Half links, this means that if you are running vertical drop-outs you can get reasonable chain tension without the use of a tensioner.
The bike is as follows
STP1 frame.
DMR Sidekick fork.
Profile Cranks 175mm.
Eastern 36t Resurrection Sprocket.
Shadow Conspiracy Chain.
Odyssey Mag JC pedals.
Thomson 50mm stem.
Pro Tapper Bars with Intense lock-on grips and SNAFU Bar Ends.
Avid brake lever with DEORE cable Disk.
(F) Wheel Hadley Hub with DT FR 6.1D rim.
(R) Wheel Hadley Hub with DT FR 6.1D rim.
Saet, post and Headset are all Stock STP.
This conversion is also a bit cheaper than one with a Tensioner as the chains are normally around $70 AUD.

or, you could have saved your money, and brought a regular bmx chain, and one half link, which will be the exact same length, and wont stretch anywhere near as much.
whoops. forgot about the rest. lol
NICE. other than the chain, and seat like ltr said, im lovin it.
Some super bling shit on that... but the seat wrecks it! Burn that seat i say! :p

Yes a normal BMX chain with a half link would be cheaper, but I prefer the ease of set up and beefier looks of this chain.
As with stretch, there is an initial running in period similar to alot of other chains and other mechanical parts, but after that its fine, and alot stronger than you would probably give it credit for (I know I was critic at first but gave it a go just to see, and it has performed better then I had anticipated).

I've got a few bmx mates that tried them because shadow stated they were unbreakeable...a few rides later and snap! straight over the bars too.
yea i know alot of chains do generally snap...but "unbreakeable" ones definetly shouldnt that easily

Theres a new version which has fixed a few issues with the last.
I've seen two snapped shadow chains, one a week old. The other a year.

why rigids?
because rigids kick ass-because shocks are heavy, expensive and annoying in skateparks?
Ive had a shadow chain and grinded, cased, sprocketed on it for about 8 months and it hasnt stretched, hasnt snapped and is awesome, i think either i have a rogue chain or you guys are doing something wrong like running the chains too loose or something -ive seen literary dozens of bmx's who run them and they all said they havent had any issues with them....

they were set up correctly, one of the guys won the mini am at the bmx games in sydney last year and got 2nd in dirt..so im pretty sure he knows how to set up his bike.

I've heard a lot of good things sbout these chains, so i'm interested to know who this mystery bmx man is Jordy...
Aparently some people in the BMX scene were running the chains on a 25/9
set up in the beginning.
SHADOW were saying this put the chain under to much load this could be why some guys were having problems with the chains.
The new version whitch I am running is supposed to have cut down on some of these problems but SHADOW do say not to run gearing smaller than 28/10 because the tight curve puts the chain under to much stress.
I think the gearing that I run 36/16 should not cause any problems.

yeh rigids rule, i wanna run them, just havent gotten around to getting a set for my bike :(
seems like no one on here who has a SC chain has broken one, all we have heard is SECOND hand info..... i aint broken mine, and others have also stated they aint broken theirs... unless your giving first hand (i.e. it happend to YOU) give it up..
sorry about that, i just dont get how everyone bags them, probably havnt owned one, but my mates sisters cousin broke one in a week !!
*rant over* :D
Nice specs!
Ive seen that chain heaps around lately. It is upside down?? cause i heard some people disputing about it at a skatepark once!

yeh, you are supposed to run is a certian direction, this may have caused the chains to apparently snap.....
the smaller..... end of the link is supposed to be pointing forward.....
dammit, that didnt work..... wont let me put spaces in..... oh well.
