with that thin top tube and seat tube it resembles an xc bike gone wrong, but the white does look sweet.
can you tell me why you are all for a lighter build but still hanging on to your old heavy M4 brakes (yes they are nice but........)
the mono M4's will be lighter and if you run 1 standard pad/1 ebc red pad in each calliper, you will have the equivalent power/modulation of the old M4's

the mono M4's will be lighter and if you run 1 standard pad/1 ebc red pad in each calliper, you will have the equivalent power/modulation of the old M4's
Not really. When you actually put the 2 on the scales, the Mono M4 is only 8 grams lighter. For such a pissweak saving, and huge power loss, i'd rather stick with the old skool brakes. The floating rotors are lighter too, and you can't use them on the Mono style calipers (unless you go 6pots which I have no care about)
Just get some XTR brakes and carbon + titanium rotors :D
Fuck no. I'd rather run Magura, then support Shimano

Not my problem your bike is too heavy for other applications...

What terrain do you ride? How do you find the Larsen on the rear? Just wondering whether you sacrifice too much grip for little rolling resistance?

07-09-2005, 01:29 PM
it looks great.........wish i could have a blast
interesting to see DH bikes and components take a turn towards weight reduction to gain some performance
would seem that the weight pendulum is about to swing the other way... compared to bikes/components in 01/02/03 era which some would argue were overbuilt.......
so this begs the question is DH about to build bikes that are too light
*durability issue
- airshocks unable to cope with the heat
- small tubed frames = less welding surface
*handling issues - too light to maintain chosen lines ie. more deflection
of course these won't be issues for most experienced racers who seeks performance at any cost, but joe average will be eluded into thinking it's the golden shit
interesting
the whole bike is awsome, good job dude

Hey Squid,
From one weight weenie to another....sweet ride
How are the boxxers? I thinking of swapping my much loved (and tweaked) 888's for a set and bolting a Progressive 5th Gravity on the VP-Free. I love my 888's so it's going to take some convincing on the boxxers but I'm looking to loose weight too. The VP is around 39 lbs and since I use her for everything, including xc less weight is good. Not willing to sacrfice strength though....

Squid i thought your last ride was very impressive but this time you have put together one of the best setups i have seen to date you have totaly out do yourself with this rig i only wish i could get mine rig down to somewhere near that weight.
Could you post your thoughts on what you think of the 06 Boxxer world cups after you get a chance to ride on them a few times it would be much appreciated as iam considering them for my ride.

Boxxers are sweet. The new montion control biso is the bomb. I personally couldn't care for HSC, but the LSC adjustment comes in handy for different types of terrain. It's nice to have so much adjustment to fine tune to your own riding style.
Maybe PM Nicho on here as he's recently converted from the 888s to the World Cups, and loving every minute of it.

Hard to say as i've come off a set of 03 World Cups. I find them a little more on the bobby side of things (which can be changed with some LSC or rebound), but i've noticed a huge traction increase in loose and choppy stuff.
At first I didn't like the move from 7 to 8" due to the height of the front end, but after fine tuning my sag settings, it's balenced out beautifully.
Full spec to come Mr P...

Nah, I take it off for race day in preference for a High Roller. Otherwise it's fast, long lasting, and still has enough 'umph' in the sidewalls for rocks'n'shit yo!
