I bought a Netti AXN as it was the only one that would fit my big head, $210 from the LBS. Try on as many different ones as you can get your hands on and buy the one that fits best.

My $250 Netti (sorry, don't know the model but it is black and red....) has saved my scone a number of times. I'd happily recommend the Netti's!

i'd also go for a d2 if your serious about your riding. most comfortable helmet i've ever owned, look schmick and of course can stand the toughest of blows, and don't I know it :p

yeah i was thinking about that but i thought i would look like a douche bag wearing an expensive helmet when im first starting out, aswell as the fact i think i may crash more when i start so if i bought a TLD then i might trash it quickly which is not sometihng one should do with a TLD

i'm onto my 2nd mad max, and love it. Considered goin TLD, but realised the giro fits my noggin nicely, and in reality, a TLD will break as much as a giro in a big crash, and protect your head the same...(providing fitting is good) Plus at half or 2/3rds the price, the Giro is a solid bet

all i can suggest is that you try on as many different makes and models of helmets that you can, dont be afraid to go to several different stores to see what fits best. once you work out what fits best in the given price range then go for it. i have come from a motor bike riding background and this is what i do whenever i need a new lid (luckily only once so far)

also dont be afraid of trying on some MX helmets as they can be pretty light as well.

i currently wear a fox tazar and i dont notice the extra weight, but im used to wearing a full face lid.

What I did was search around and don’t discriminate by brand they all have to comply with Australian standards. So I would try and find the cheapest one that is comfortable for you.

I picked up a fox tracer for about 160 new. It fits super good, only problem is heat if you're not just going downhill. moto protection, but with a minor added weight cost. Full grant allen stylez yo'.

I would go for the Bell Bellistic, they are very light, comfortable and quite cheap (about $159 at Phantom Cycles) but get the newer 2005 ones as they look a lot better. The Troy Lee designs helmets are great helmets but are very expensive and only the Carbon ones are lighter then the Bellistic.

1. Comfortable fit is the most important consideration.

2. Next the material.

Carbon fibre, if you can afford it as the strength/weight factor is important when you consider what you are protecting.

For sure the way to go is the new Mace range of fullface helmets!!! $240 sick urban asualt colours, great product for the price, ive just started downhill and these helmets are the bomb, but really it is important to find a helmet that fits properly, cause you dont want to scrape your face of on some scary rocks when ya helmet peels off in a crash!!! so dont be influenced by price or pretty colours,
well thats my 2 cents worth anyway :D

i got my netti axn for $200 at blackmans in parramatta. Theyre not too heavy and have 22 vents i think so you don't heat up too quick.

giro mad max....

It was my first fullface. I absoloutly love it. nice and comfy and not particulaly heavy. It is a bit hot to stand aroud in but as soon as you start riding it isn't a problem....

It was bit more expensive than the 661 but i figured you can't really put a price on your head.

that said - i can't afford to spend 400 plus on a D2 so the giro does the job

good luck

I bought the mad max II.

It's comfy as hell, the chin-strap stays tight and is easy to tighten or loosen on the fly. It's ventilation is good, though it gets a bit hot if the trail you're on has many XC areas, but you only notice it when you stop.
It's my first full-face, but I have to say I'm very happy with all aspects with it, I stacked it into a tree and whacked my head a couple of days after buying it, it's padding proved very effective (f@rk was i glad I bought it after that).

Don't cheap out with your helmet dude, you just can't put a price on your head.
