hi all,

i lost my nice Race Face gloves on my way home from my local DH track, and need a new pair. What sort of gloves does everybody else use for DH? I liked my old ones, coz they had those carbon lookin knuckle dusters. any one else used ones with nuckle dusters, and normal gloves? What ones should i buy? Price isn't as much of a issue, so -Which Pair?

theyre not knuckle dusters, any anyone that buys carbon gloves jsut for that purpose IMO is the sort of person that would run away at any hint of a fight, theyre a bit of a waste of money IMO, maybe for dh when you get a bit quicker to the point where if you come off its gonna be HARD or for moto i can see where they would be useful but just for your local djs or street or something theyre a wank, and so damn expensive. get hoots they dont have the carbon knucles but they are a lot thicker than most other gloves, almost like a moto glove, so when you come off and scrape your palms you dont tear them up through the gloves, a problem i had with fox, raceface AND troy lee designs gloves, first high speed stack and they get huge holes, go figure

i know there knot actual carbon knuckle dusters, but you get what type of gloves i mean. they'll be for DH. i don't like wearing gloves when DJing anyway. I'll use the gloves on my moto too. I didn't have any problems with my Race Face ones with high speed stacks, they held up to scraping quiet well. Your right about some of those thinner gloves though. i'd be buying nice n thick ones.

the carbon ones are dumb... if you hit one knuckle then ever knuckles gets the impact

so instead of shattering one knuckle, all your knuckles get lightly bruised instead, yep i can see just how stupid that is

edit: anyone who has carbon gloves, learn from squids mistakes, i heard a story about punching a tree to prove how tough they were that ended with a dislocated shoulder? care to confirm this? :D

I got my bloves from the blove store on blove street in blovesville.

Seriously though if your gonna use them on your moto too
get the new Troy Lee Moto ones that have the carbon knuckle plates on them $90 at any moto store

When was the last time you hit just one knuckle against a tree?
Or do you just have one freakishly large knuckle or are your knuckles like 3 inches apart. If either please post photo, I love seeing mutant crap like that.

Well i can actually see the sense in that....i would much rather have my kunckles slightly buised and still ridable, than have a knuckle shattered and be in great pain when riding a bike...so i think your statement is unfair lotec, the guy simply wants protection, Im sure most of us feel more comfortable when we know we have got stuff to protect us if we fall of, (Helmets, body armor, ect), I personally wouldn't use them because i do find it stupid, but im not that worried about my knuckles to pay extra money.

PERSONALLY i use the Troy lee designs XC glove, which i think is awsome because they are cheap, Well ventilated and last for quite a while (I use them for DH as well as everything els), They may not give your hands maximimum protection, but they feel really nice, at mimimal cost too....

Depends what you want in a glove really, I prefer more XC style gloves, buy you might want all of the protection for your hands, go to your LBS (or a moto shop) and try a few pairs on.

Drew.

you missed the sarcasm, ive had broken knuckles before (not from riding though) and i know how much it hurts! but i still think for 99% of riders its a waste of money, and ive also been known to "punch" more than the odd tree while riding past :o

I obviously didn't see the sarcasm in it, nor the point of using sarcasm....

I personally agree with you at the same time though lotec, i do believe they are a waste of cash, but maybe he doesnt feel comforable with XC style gloves like me, its all about your confidence in yourself as a rider. (So i believe).

As i said before, try some on, or just get the ones you previously had (the raceface ones).

then he should buy hoots, not some wimpy xc gloves with overengineered knuckles :p

ok, lets sort a few things out; i have been know to hit a few trees, at high speed. and i tend to keep my hands on the bars when i stack. My old gloves saved my knuckles a fair few times.

i'm not after comfy XC gloves, i want good DH gloves that'll protect me.

And i can't imagine only being able to hit one of your knuckles when you crash, coz there kinda next to each other

i don't mind paying a bit extra for the good stuff-to me it's worth the extra dough.

i have a few pairs of gloves. six six one (dh glove), fox (dh glove), and mace(xc).
I love the mace gloves more than the others they are much more comfortable than the others. i find them much more comfortable than the troylee xc gloves. they have no restriction in movement at all and are awsome quality and a reasonably priced

they are the mace xc carbon glove (no carbon in them at all just the look of them in the way they have being made).

The carbon knuckled gloves you are talking about, the "carbon" is actually kevlar.
