Hey guys, I'm looking at upgrading the forks on my ht and am stuck between two forks. On my bike i mainly ride freeride... The forks i am deciding between are the Fox 36R's and the 2006 Marzocchi 66RCx's. Any suggestions or experiences (maybe a little hard on the 66's) on either fork would be a lot of help. or indeed if someone else has another fork that they like then pls share it with me. Also if anyone has information on where i could get the forx (i live in sydney) then it would be much appreciated...

both will be awsome...

im using 05 66rc's and i love the feel of them, they do rake the bike out in the 170mm setting but since ive dropped it to 150mm, the geo is a lot better..

the 66rcx's or whatevr their called acctually have a normal ride height so i would be going the marzocchi's, although i imagine you would be saving some weight with the fox forks..

... having said that ive never ridden the fox 36's.. but are the 36R's coil sprung?

Which Fox are you after? They make 2 36 lines: the Talas (air sprung, externally adjustable travel) and the Vanilla (coil sprung, fixed travel). I have the 36 Talas on my play bike and i can't really fault them (except for the brown colour... it was a baaad colour choice).

I'd be going the 36 if you want something lighter, and shorter (ride height), with normal brake mounts. 36 Talas will be more versatile (travel adjust, so you can make your bike more DH or jump friendly after a few turns), but the Vanilla is buttery as.

Awesome info there Juls, a good comparison. Marz's only downfall is the half pound of extra weight in the 66RC2X, which is more than balanced out by its other benefits. I would buy Marzocchi anyway, but now at least I have some "rational justification".. :D

I would be taking the 66's, a lot better suited to freeride than the 36's. Also what sort of bike are they going on? Hardtail or Dually? If your a real weight weenie then get the 36's but if I had to choice of the two I would definately pick the 66's for the extra strength, plus HSCV damping is the sex.

^^

you can either press the quote button on the bottom right hand side of each post, or do this:

[QUOTE=demo man]

that's in REVERSE ORDER, so that it doesn't actually make a quote.

grea info Juls (as is to be expected from you now)

I was taking it from the coil forks, not the air forks, based on the fact if I were to choose a fork for freeride I would be choosing coil over air.

Thats the SL model though. The 05 models are tall and heavy.

Marzocchi 66 RC 150 mm 2005 1 1/8" 3315 g
Marzocchi 66 RC 170 mm 2005 1 1/8" 3345 g
Marzocchi 66 VF 150 mm 2005 1 1/8" 3145 g

Personally, I'm loving the 36. Its stiff as all fark. And is extremly versitile, the talas is an neat system.

Thats what I thought to, but give a 36 a try and your tune will change :D
Fox has AIR dialed. :)

I'm impressed marzocchi was able to knock out almost a kilo of weight between the 05 and 06 models. But j5ive, wouldnt the air forks be substantially weaker for heavy freerider in comparison to coil?

Who the hell is talking about 05 models on this post?

he specifically says 06 models.

Who the hell here has ridden an 06 66?

I was making a point that any 66 opinions are going to be based on a heavier and stupidly tall fork.

I'd also like to point out that on 110mm travel the 36 sits low enough for riding other than Freeride... I will get my tape measure... :o

Yeh fer sure..

thats what I was pointing out the 36 is more a jack of all trades,
not specifically Freeride/DH like the 66.

realistically they are totally different forks, for different purposes.
