I know someone that used to do bike gymnastics when she was growing up in Germany. As she puts it, she can (or could) ride a fixed gear bike on perfectly smooth ground really well, but that didn't quite transfer to riding a normal bike. In fact she did a little bit of MTB here in Sydney until having a nasty off which involved a badly broken wrist. :(

It seems that a lot of the skills they have are pretty specific to doing the balancy stuff you see. The bikes themselves are pretty unique too.

That said, it is amazingly impressive.
