I got an ipod cheap with a phone and I've loved every moment of it (im a student so its saved me heaps of $ and carrying around disks). They upgrade the technology on your player every now and then over the net so its like your getting a new toy each time.
But i have heard that iriver are much better for $ and they seem to have the same features (more or less). So, probably the iriver would be best.

.... i am the not very proud over an ipod. at the moment the battery time, is getting less and less with each use, and untill i repeatedly hit my ipod, it would freeze up and change the volume at random time (when keypad lock was on). i have heard mostly god things about the iriver, though when i purchase a new mp3 a the end of the year, it will most likely be an iAudio, which seem better than bot the iriver and ipod. (i have had my ipod for over 2 years :o )

Hmm, I'm quite taken with the sony ericsson w800i walkman phone.

It's a bit pricey and I have been let down by sony in the past BUT:

Ericsson are usually pretty good, It comes with half a gig memory but you can use memory cards (the same as in digicams) to give it anything up to 2gig at a time and to be honest are you really going to listen to more than 80 albums in one sitting. You can plug normal headphones into the remote instead of the crappy ones you usually get supplied, it's mp3 compatible and saves you carrying an mp3 player AND a phone at the same time!

It also looks pretty funky with a nice silver, fluoro orange cholour scheme.

Dunno what the battery life is like but being a mobile spares'd be pretty easy to pick up (unlike ipods)

Ive got the sony ericsson K750i which is the one below it, only comes with a 64meg card but can be upgraded to a 2 gig. Ya gotta use the headset earplugs but its got and awesome mp3 player on it, really good stuff. and its a awesome phone all round too! The battery is pretty good when i comes to MP3's just dont use them and play java games at the same time....eats it to the max, im assuming it would have the same battery as the W800i

i got an ipod which works great and the battery is still heaps good. only gripe for me is that it is WAY to easy to delete all your songs. if it would have happened when i was OS i would have been devistated.

saying that, ive had 2 mates with ipods (older ones) that have crapped out.

I mean to say that because the iPod doesn't have a customiseable equalizer that just about any other play that does is better.

deffinitely iRiver, i bought one and its teh fucken best machine ever, so simple, no drivers needed, just plug-in and downlaod ...the good thing about them is they have an external battery, which means u can just take it out to turn it off if it freezes, iPods easily spontainiesy (or how ever u spell it) erase all your songs ... which sucks right? ... plus iRiver need support, apple are so huge they can take one of their successful creations and alter it very slightly and it would sell like crazy ... re: the nano

buy an iRiver !!! note: more colour choice.

Ipods are great they work although there a little pricy and can be hard to start up. Altough the Ipods are well known

The ipod 20G is not 18 its 20. The reason it says 18 is because you have long songs

Tailus

actually the 20s are 18.x and it's not just apple, it's every single manufacturer out there.
A 'gb' is 1000000 bites as far as the retailer is concerned. That way they can label a 240gig hard disk as 250gig (in my computer's case) or an 18gig iPod as a 20gig. The iRivers/other mp3 players will be no different.

another question...

is there an AM/FM transmittor made or available for the Iriver?

I know that the ipod has that Itrip thing, just wondering if they make one for Iriver H10s
