Checks MP3 player...not sure of solos but great beats
Nick Barker from Cradle of Filth was a sick drummer - anything from Principle of Evil Made Flesh, and the Dusk album (Later with Dimmu Borgir).
For blast beats nothing beats Mayhem - Buried by Time on Dust on De Mysteriis Dom Satanas (or anything on that album).

i've got a slipknot video where the drummer plays on a platform which raises from the ground and goes up side down and turns around and stuff its really nuts it goes for 5 mins or so.....
Pfft, Slipknot are more than 10 years behind Motley Crue when it comes to drumkit antics. That said, Joey is a top drummer, I wonder why there's an extra 2 percussionists when #1 is good enough to do their jobs as well as his own.

If you haven't heard Strapping Young Lad, then you haven't heard gene at his finest. His ordinary rythym outdoes most other drummers solo's, he is stupid fast, and ridiculously precise. Enough said

well , joey (slipknot) has been voted the best metal drummer in the world, and i think one of the best drummers in the world, official as well, so that solves the question of best drummer, but it is all also but to taste but i do think he his very dam good,
however i think the solo that Mike Portanoy (dream theater) does at Live in Tokyo is farking amazing, its about 8 mins and intense that whole way,

Who else is going to urinate on the maggots hey???
**casts mind back to first aussie slipknot show 5 or so years ago at the hordon**
Some of the stuff that gordy from frenzal rhomb does is pretty neat...especially when he is playing for Mindsnare! Although i could never look past Joey!

Hmm yes Joey is good. Nicholas Barker, who was with Dimmu Borgir, Meshuggahs drummer is also a fantastic drummer. Lets not forget Morbid Angles Drummer.
Best in the world is hard to determine because, it is done using many criteria. Eg Technical ability, flow, performance ability(on stage at anytime). Originality. Although being in bands myself there are some KILLER up and coming drummers. For example Synthetic Breeds drummer, is one of these. Take a listen to there stuff its good! Most liking if there was a search for the greatest drummer in the world you will probably find that it would possibly be someone that wasnt famous.

Id rather think of him as the guy that learned all opeths material in a day, and played drums for Death. but thats prolly because I cant stand devin townsends voice.
Hellhammer of mayhem is one of the best drummmers i have seen/heard, and gets bonus points for being part of the most kvlt band in history.
see nif you can download derek roddy's drum solo off some P2P network. damn good.

The best drum solo (Technical) would have to be The Black Page by Zappa and performed by Terry Bozzio. The track was called the black page becasue of the amount of notes and was written to challenge to the drummer. It is hard to believe that it is only one person is playing the drums.
If you haven't heard Strapping Young Lad, then you haven't heard gene at his finest. His ordinary rythym outdoes most other drummers solo's, he is stupid fast, and ridiculously precise. Enough said
yeah, he's a pretty "tight and on it" kind of drummer, but to staight man, he sounds like a ficken drum machine:eek:
wtf happened to groove?
Vinnie Paul had it made, hard as, tight as, tech as, groovie as... anything on Vulgar Display of Power or Far Beyond Driven displays this perfectly...
Some of the stuff that gordy from frenzal rhomb does is pretty neat...especially when he is playing for Mindsnare!
Fuck me, i'd never think that i would hear someone tralk about Mindsnare on a mtb forum! hahaha
I know the guitarist too - he's hard as fuck (for a vegan)

metal drummers mmmmm. as a guitarist whos dabbled in drums a little i dont have much of a tech perspective, but i know what i like to hear
as far as drummers whos sound is totaly unique, Lars Ulrich's pre black album stuff ( the rest is a floating turd) is very very good. not the fastest, not the most technical, but v good.
Vinnie Paul from pantera is another great drummer imho, just rips it up for a big guy.
but my fave is ptobably the drummer from fear factory. hell i dont even know if that was a drummer or a drum machine on those albums, but the parts were great.
Non metal drummers i really like are Dave Grohl, Dave Abruze from pearl jam was the best drummer they ever had by far and Jimmy Chamberin from Smashing pumpkis was unique for that jazz feel over endless noise guitars

Hellhammer from Mayhem, can't think of the song but it's off one of their many live bootleg releases...(Edit:the song is 'Silvester Anfang')
Horgh from Immortal doing a solo (from a live gig some time ago...1998 I think)
Frost from Satyricon; the blast beats near the end of 'Havoc Vulture' are killer
Mikkey Dee from Motorhead (when I saw them live in England), he just kept going and going.
There's more but I can't think of them right now.
Rikki Rocket - Poison. He can twirl one drum stick while hitting the snare with the other AND still keep a Hi-Hat beat going. He is the man (& he's so pretty)
Matt Sorum - GnR. I actually think he only knows one beat (4:4) & one fill (hit the toms in order of descending pitch). But he wears a mean bandanna.

My favourites in no order:
-Bill Ward (Black Sabbath). Ever seen him perfoming Children of the Grave at the California Jam 1974(?) ? Awesome. What about War Pigs in the Paris 1970 video? Oh yeah. Also he goes alright in 1997's Reunion cd.
-Vinnie Paul (Pantera, Official Live 101 proof)
-Megadeth's latest drummer (in the Rude Awakening DVD)
-Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Live at Budokan)
-Bonham (check out Led Zeps double live DVD)
-Jason Rullo (Symphony X)
-The guy from Joe Satriani's band (Campitelli?)

I saw Strapping at Sydney Uni many years, Gene just blew us all away. That is one fine band. Devin Townsend formed so many bands playing so many genres it was hard to keep track.

ANY drum solo by Virgil Donati

I was with a bunch of metallers from Newcastle, who walked from Central to the venue.
