Ok, in light of my most recent thread about Lefty forks which some how turned in to a discussion about cooking pies.

What I hate most though? When I spend all of 4 minutes microwaving a pie, then putting it in the oven for that extra crispyness, taking a few bites, then finding a hard, cold piece of meat in the middle! Nothing worse than that.

I have decided to ask you. How do you cook a pie?

Even better, what ideas would you have for cooking a pie the abnormal way. For example:

I usually just throw some vodka on it then set it on fire for 10-20 seconds. Mmm... vodka pie! :D

Tell me what you think before this gets closed because admin thinks it is not 'Non MTB Discussion.' Believe it or not I am actually quite interested in what your response will be.

Following on from the thread I accidently (sort of) hi-jacked with pie banter.

Daver, it will be quite hot when it first comes out of the oven, by the time ive got it on a plate, put on some sauce and walked upstairs to eat it, it is at a suitable eating temp. Alternatively you can put it into the freezer for a little bit just to cool it down a bit to eating temp.

Also, just preheat the oven while it is in the microwave. Just crank the oven to max temp and itl be sweet.

Actualy I have a personal ethos on cooking which goes something like "dont ever follow instructions, do it how you want to, take any shortcuts possible and dont wait for any extended period of time for cooking" It always works for me, but then again I only ever cook pies, tinned spag, 2 min noodles, pizza (cheese and tomatoe) and my all time favourite spag bol.

Yuk, vodka and pie... cant be worse than beer spiders

PS: Cheers fatty for making this thread. :)

Yeah, but its sooo hard to wait for it to cool down. You really need fresh food so you don't have to wait for it to cool down before you eat it. Also, vodka on the pie is a bad idea. Because you will waste precious vodka, and pies don't drink, so its just plain stupid.

I was talking to Weebl and Bob and they have some important things to say on the topic.

Stuff eating that crap. Unless your drunk, it's 3am and there's no kebab shop to be found.

Bakery pies and specialist pie shops are the go. If you're reheating frozen pies (you bought them from a specialist pies shop right? Not supermarket offal), I just chuck them in the microwave for under a minute and then put them in the oven @ 180ºC till the top browns nicely. Then just make sure it's heated all the way through (the microwave helps with this) and go nuts.

PS. When it comes to sauce I'm a bit of a freak. I like the stab and inject approach that squeeze bottles allow. Spreading the sauce on top is ok in an emergency though.

Ok, this is how u do it.....

Preheat the oven at 200 degrees on fan forced for 10 mins, Put the pie in after 10 mins for lets say roughly another 10 mins, when u see the pie starting to get good, get a toothpick and push it through the centre of the pie, if its rick hard keep on going, if it comes out cold, keep going, if it comes out warm and moist, you know your ready to go ;)

One thing I'd like to know, on this subject.
If God is omnipotent, can he microwave a pie so hot that he can't eat it

Just zap the fuck out of it and put it between two chunks of bread. Add lashings of sauce and butter so you don't burn your mouth.

If you eat enough you work out the perfect microwave time. So thats sounds like your problem. Eat more pies.

Oven at temperature as explained in instructions. Normally add ~1/3 cooking time though. To test, take a breadknife, stick it in vertically in the centre, it should come out clean if its hot. I have no frozen centre issues.

Pie: Alfoil in oven 15 - 17mins @ 200 (I think thats about it)

Remove alfoil, leave in oven for 5+ mins

Leave on counter for 2 - 3mins

Enjoy :D

Well, obviously he could eat it because he is god, but then he could also make it so unbelievably hot he couldnt. My solution is he could make it so hot that he could only eat half of the pie.

oh wait that was the other one hahha.

theres a place in the 'ville called 'outback pies' they brand the top of the with there logo hehehe. and far out they taste freakin good! the chunky beef one is one of the nicest pies i have ever had. but i am also a big curry pie fan and like to sample as many different curry pies as possible. far out there have been some shockers! from curry powder on the very top of the pie and calling it a curry pie through to curry power on the inside through to very thick light curries with big chunks of carrot and what not through to a super hot and dark curry pie. that one was interesting.

your best bet (or what i do which makes it good) is to buy 4 and 20 pepper steak pies. (nice and flaky outside.
then micro for 2 mins (preheat the oven)
10 mins in the oven
another 2 in the micro
then 10 in the oven again. yummmmmmy.

I have indeed straight out of a pie van .. though they can become difficult to eat with your hands as they seem to be fairly runny .. need to attack them with the knife and fork. taste is second to none though

People like you should be trialed for those nasty bits of pie crusts that get stuck around the bottle! Perpetrator! :P :D
