What tyres does everyone use and what conditions do you find these tires work best in?

I'm not the tyre master, but I've heard pretty good things about maxxis high rollers. I run then front and rear on my tomac and they are very good in my books. Good in most conditions.. shine through in mud. Retail for around $40each (2.5in).
Minion slow rezzay 40a, softer than super tackys, i love them, i've ripped about half of the knobs half off after only 3 weeks but they ae really nice, make up for the lack of traction on a hardtail. but at $90 each there not cheap (i wont be able to afford getting them again)
Michelin Comp 24 front and back, they rock on dry stuff but pack up with mud pretty easily. Hopefully gonna get a Comp32 for the front soon, those things are sick.

i have an intense DH2.35 on the back and that kills it in WA's ball bearing dirt and soft stuff. I have a Tioga 2.1 that is pretty good grip wise but pinches pretty easily.
NExt tyres will be Michelin 24.1 2.5's.

what would be a good tire for street/urban riding?
Maxxis hookworms, it's "THE" mtb street tire.
I have used michelin comp24s and they are really good. Also okay are mobsters, but I found they drifted around more than the michelins. My current tires are specialized roller 2.5s and they are pretty crap, hard compound but soft sidewalls.
Michelins do not come in 24inch though if this is for your downhiller

my current tires are 26 x 2.35 i think, would the maxxis hookworm be able to replace them fine? how much do these cost?
hutchy jumbo, and hutchy proto-type on the rear

Just pump ya kendas up nice n hard and worry about replacing them when they're actually worn out.

tioga 2.3 DH (Could be better), Continental Vertical 2.3(Good), and on the XC bike IRC Serac 1.95 (Good).

i use a 3" nokian gazzalodi on my front, and a 2.5" mazzis high roller slow rezzay 40a on my rear, i find that in almost every thing wet wether or dry they tend to not loose grip, the 3" i will usualy run at a low psi for DH just for that little bit more grip,
the only down side of them is that the 3" is just to big and a bit to heavy at 1.5kg, and the highroller is a bit soft and were's out rather quickly.

on my trials bike i have hutchinson python 2" on the front michelin 2.2 mud on the back
125 wich gets used for kinda jumping skatepark urban and freeride michlin comp 16 on the back in 2.2 and the standard 2.2 on the front i think it's a kenda
XC bike gets whatever is hangin off my tyre hook at the time and has the most tread
I run a Maxxis Mobster 2.7 front and High Roller 2.5 rear, both in 60a compound, both double ply sidewalls. Love the Mobster, hooks up like a dream on most tracks around Brisbane, super predictable as to when it breaks traction too and when it does, it's quite happy drifting and easy to get a hold of again. The High Roller is okay, hooks up well around Brisbane too but not as well as the Mobster, so, still looking for the perfect back tyre, Mobster is the perfect front tyre.

a tioga 2.3 dh on the front and a kujo 2.3 on the back. good combination i think, my friends are like "thats a gay combination" but i don't see why, works perfectly fine with me.
peachy, do you find with the very "round" profile of the the kujo it makes manualing a bit sketchy, i ran a 2.65 kujo on the back of my old bike for a while and i had issues manualing more than 15-20 meters (kept rolling off to one side)

Interesting that the tread could make any difference... so it's easier to manual on a Mobster or something?
it's more the profile of the tread, a more square tire such a michy or mobster is easier to maunal stright on i believe than a rounder tire like a kujo, think of it like trying to balance standing on a basket ball vs standing on a bessa (sp?) block, it's going to be alot easier on the square surface.
(i have arguments aginst this theory too)
Makes sense, I'm just surprised that it's actually a noticeable difference.

yeah that is wierd, i had a sqaure tyre before, now i have a kujo, i'll have to investigate.
I just got an old skool Hutchinson Sqaule ... for the back .. it stood up pretty well to Blackstone .. and the loose rocky surfaces .. very hard compound .. so they will last you if your an urban assualter ..
anyone run these before ?

i'm still learning how to wheelie, such a newb i am

i have SPECIALIZED roll-x 2.0" but they measure to about 2.35". They are a good tyre but once they lose that tread sharpness they lose grip.

Well, atleast no one can chime in and accuse you of asking something that's already been asked. Perhaps I should just start a new thread anyway to get up someones goat.

I run a Maxxis minion slow rezaay on the front and a Kenda K-rad on the rear. Great combination for traction and rolling speed
i've got a Kujo 2.65 on the front, and Michy comp24 on the rear.
the kujo is rit dyed black to match... and both grip really well for me (dry, loose over hard, etc) no complaints.

ive been using maxxis minion 2.5 60a for 6 months :? and they hold up well in the wet tassy cond. they are also great for dry stuff and even hook up on the street a bit although i am going hookwoms at chrissie time...
i have done a lot of K's on these tyres so if u want a all round long lasting tyre these are great and with double ply wall u cant go wrong i havnt had a single pucture with these tyres and maxxis DH tubes........

single ply 2.35 highroller front, and kenda GT1 (not 100% sure the model tho coz it doesn't say, although the guy at the bike shop said it was GT1) on the rear....hmm the kenda seems to work beta in hot weather, not too sure about the highroller tho :?

Specialised Roller Pros. super tackey. ride like shit on concrete. stop pedalling and then roll about 5 meters before stopping.
they suck to manual in cos of the tackeyness, but the box shape makes em nice for balance.
on the track, they rock in dusty corners. ive had many occasions where my mates have slid out and ive held the corner tightly.
im waiting for these to wear out before getting a new set. probably look at some Maxxis tyres i think.

Im running a front 2.5 minion slow rezzay on the front and a high roller semi slick on the rear at the moment.
Super sketchy, but it helps to learn how to control the bike in a corner while the rear is sliding every where.
2.5 front minion backs and front is a good combo, as is a minion front and normal high roller rear.

Yar, what's the trend with running Minion Fronts on both the front n rear?

They corner really well. If you try not to brake in the corner the tires will rail around. Not that great for pedalling traction but they do a good enough job. Cornering is the secret to getting good DH times.

well as i dont have a complete bike, i dont run any tyres. but when it is ready to roll i wil be running a highroller semislick on the rear with a single ply Bling Bling on the front. MAXXIS all the way...

Yep, I previously ran Tioga White Tiger 2.5s (I got them free!), and got flats at least once a week.
Maxxis hookworms, it's "THE" mtb street tire.
I use these now, and they're sweet. No flats after a few months (!) and that includes not being able to dodge glass, riding on double-g-infested grass, drops, stairs, etc. They are great for commuting with a bit more pressure, and fun for general urban silliness with a little less.
Yar, what's the trend with running Minion Fronts on both the front n rear?
The Minion Rears don't grip all that well laterally (as in cornering traction), the Minion fronts are absolutely unbeatable for that though. The fronts seem to roll a bit slow though.

I have never had an issue with the minions on the rear. I corner can get em drifting on corners, but usually intentionally. In certain conditions they aren't to good, mainly on the rolling speed like you said S.
maxxis high roller 2.5 on front
maxxis minion 2.5 on rear
both 40a, slow reezay
HEAPS better then the specialized pro pieces of shit that came on the demo9 - they were MASSIVE, and heavy and had the shittest traction...

Man ur highrollers are just HARD, you should get urself some dual ply slow reazays. I bet they'll last you over 2 years!!
I run 2.5 DH casing high roller on the front, and kenda kinetics at the rear.
The kinetics are nice and light, they roll fast with decent presure. However the single ply casing makes them prone to pinch flats, so I just run a dh tube. :P
The high rollers at the front are just sweet, they roll fast even with low pressure and just grip like a mofo on any conditions.
Go the high rollers!

Yeah I chucked a front on instead of the rear I had on there, for the race on the weekend (lots of off-camber corners) and it made a big difference. The rears are good, but the fronts are better (sideways). The only problem seems to be that when the fronts do let go, they don't pick up again all that easily, which the rears do - they seem happy to slip and slide a bit and pick up intermittently, the fronts seem to be a bit more on or off kinda thing. Worth trying at any rate, IMO, especially for off-camber stuff. Wouldn't run them on any high speed tracks (thredbo, bighill etc) though.
