I was out riding this arvo with my dad when I was goin down a hill at about 40km/hr and a farkin wombat ran out in front of me. I hit it and landed 3-4 meters down the track. Dad said it was pretty spectacular:D Now I am about to goto bed with grazes and bruises all down the left side of my body from my knee to my shoulder. The wombat ran off, so I think it was alright. My bike was fine suprisingly, no buckled front wheel or anything, but it did break my drink bottle cage. I then had to get a lecture from my dad bout speedin down hills:mad: Has anyone else ever hit an animal? I have never heard of it.

I've hit 3 tiger snakes, a duck and a rabbit - but never a wombat! :D
{P.S - dont know about the snakes, but the duck and the rabbit were fine - I only clipped them}
If you walked away from hitting a wombat - you have done well. You should see what they do to a car...
I think we are pretty lucky really - read some of the posts on pink bike about bears..............:eek:
I ran over a goanna in foot-high grass. Thinking it was a big snake at first, it scared the absolute crap out of us, and had our hearts racing for the next half an hour.

Lol I havn't been able to walk away from hittin that wombat. I m having the day off school today cause I can't walk. I have also hit numerouse red-bellied black snakes and a brown snake. They scare the crap out of me. Espeacialy when the brown striked at my chainstay and almost hit my leg. The redbelllies just slide away so I think they were alright.
I've hit a red belly and a brown snake, the 2nd of which was huge, roughly the width of the single lane dirt road I was on. Both times I was having a drink and not really concerntrating, the brown reared up a bit and scared the crap out of me.
Have to be pretty rare to hit a wombat and they are damn solid looking so I gonna back that the it wasn't too badly hurt.

Yeah the wombat just squeeled and kept bulldozing through me. Man I still can't move my should and it has been 3 days now.
A mate told me he was tearing down a hill oncw and a wombat charged BETWEEN his wheels. Imagine the impact of the rear wheel hitting that.
Both parties escaped with only a bad shock.

About the only thing that can hurt a wombat is a car. I do most of my road training around Kinglake (north-east of Melbourne) and at this time of the year, the road between St Andrews and Kinglake is littered with the corpses of foolhardy wombats. Poor buggers.

I've hit a roo at Lysterfield before during a night ride. Night riding with roos around can be interesting. You can hear them jumping besides you, but with your lights shining forward you can't see the buggers until they jump in front of you. Luckily it was only a light collision and both parties escaped unhurt, but startled.
