id say its going to be more than that cause apparently the record atm is 116ft, in which case, if he is going to make the record, it will have to be more than that.
anyway, i hope he makes it, rennie is a sick rider, santa cruz pride!

Johnny Waddel told me that he'll be doing it in the last week of either this month or the next (i forgot which, he told me but i forgot).
116 foot is his minimum, but he'll want to do it a decent amount larger than that i'd guess.
also, he may post-pone it as the BMX rider who set the 116ft record recently comitted suicide, so he may decide to wait a little while out of respect. or he may not, i don't know.

If it's the one where Seth punches a hole through his forehead on his handlebars when he over-jumped a record attempt, it's called Seth - The Hard Way, they measured out about 235' (71.5m) it didn't count tho 'cause he didn't ride away from it. Been a while since I watched it, can't remember the exact figure.
Doesn't matter anyhow, the records now at something like 277.5ft set by a guy called Trigger Gumm earlier this year.

yeah- winkelman did his off a bank kinda kicker -i think realistically if rennie wanted to really beat winklemans record he should do the same- i mean the 250's hits 150' gaps at like 100+ k's per hour, and he intends on hitting it at 70k's? If he didnt want to crank up the speed he should just change the ramp's transition and height -but that being said im pretty sure winkleman hit it at like 80+ k's

That's pretty much what I was pointing out. Distance wise, there's just no comparison. I hope Rennie nails it & doesn't hurt himself. I wanna see him, Hill, Kovarik, Hannah & all the other Aussies wipe the floor in the WC next season! Can't wait to see some footage of the jump though.

and i'm sure that the space i take up on these forums is in the majority of cases helpful or interesting in some way - especially all the stuff i post for CORC...
if you want to continue the discussion of whether or not i am a waste of space PM me...
and yeah, like i said before, if Rinnie decides to go ahead with it then, i have faith he will make it but still, good luck!
and if not then his reasons are honorable and i'm sure he'll pull it off in the future.

Youch.. any idea why he killed himself?
it's so sad.. some1 taking they're own life.. especially some-one world famous.. i just don't understand it :(
Fairly sure this is the reason.
He was involved in a competition travis pastrana held about doing the craziest thing possible using anything at travis'. Winklemen decided he'd try and make a large scale version of his motorised ramp, where the ramp is on wheels and comes towards you while you are going really slow. He had only practiced using a 3 foot high ramp attached to a go kart, with no landing ramp.
So anyway he decided to try it on a much larger scale, using one of the big US style Vans with a huge ramp attached to the front and a downramp at the back, He hit it while stationary a couple of times and then decided to hit it whilst moving..long story short the van and himself were going way too fast. He went straight up and by the time he was coming down the van was long gone, as he was only going slow and the van was going fast it was like dropping from about 3 stories high to flat with no momentum on a bmx...He broke both legs, both arms/wrists and got knocked out. plus many more injury's...While in recovery his girlfriend broke up with him and he was told he would never ride again, This lead to his suicide whilst under recovery.
RIP dude.

WHAT KIND OF BITCH BREAKS UP WITH HER BOYFRIEND WHILST HE IS FUCKED UP IN HOSPITAL?? ****DIE WHORE****
RIP Col'.
Dont follow his footsteps kids suicide is fucked.
Anyways.........
Rennie is going to launch 200ft? I myself cant see that happening. But good luck to him, nothing beats an Aussie kicking arse.
I've always believed being towed in is cheating. There should be 2 distance records one for a down ramp to kicker and the other for tow in to kicker.
Why am I reminded of the start of "the vish files 8" hahaha poor guy.
While in recovery his girlfriend broke up with him and he was told he would never ride again, This lead to his suicide whilst under recovery.
My hate for that kind of shallowmotherfuckingselfishbullshitscumbag person is beyond words..
Rennie wants to hit it at 70k? Is it over a stepdown or what??? Can someone clear up the speculations?

Taken from CLICT #4 due out early Nov...
For now, here is the official word from Rennie himself...
CLICT: How many feet are you planning on hitting?
NR: We (Nathan and Red Bull) are thinking about 120 feet, which tips the current record by over 5 ft. I personally will be happy with 128.5 ft

I may stir the pot here but I feel someone being towed by a motor bike isn't a true reflection of a distance jump no matter what type or bike is used (BMX MTB). I understand that in these times of extreme this and that that a rider towed in will get more of a response from the Joe Blow on the street but in the true ethos of cycling a distance record using the riders own generated momentum counts more to me that one that is done with motorised assistance.
By the way someone must hold the record for the longest jump unassisted, anyone know who?
All that said go Rennie chock another one up for all us Aussies...
Don't think this has been posted, Pinkbike has news on Rennies jump:
"Rennie is preparing to set a world record distance jump on a bicycle at the Red Bull Mountain Gap event. This attempt will take place in the Painted Desert, 30km out of Coober Pedy, in northern South Australia, and is currently scheduled for Nov. 3rd."

what about if the rider used a hill to roll down to gain his speed.
that technically means the rider has gained his momuntum by assistance.
therefore by your reckoning, its not in the true ethos of cycling (load of wank)
so are you saying someone should only be allowed to pedal on flat ground to gain their momemtum for a gap record??? i don't think any record would be broken in that way..certainly not 116+ feet...

Nah, regardless of where you get your momentum from, it would be alot easier knowing that the moto towing you in has a speedo than estimating it yourself.
i don't think any record would be broken in that way..certainly not 116+ feet...You'd be breaking records for unassisted run-ins, there'd have to be a record to start with, and that would always leave itself open to being broken.

er isn't that how they do ski long jump? given that we dont get towed down the mountain while riding our bikes I am not sure why doing jumps should be different, fuck otherwise why not just use the motor bike to do the jump?

Red Bull is flying Nathan into Coober Pedy Australia on October 31. The jump will take place on November 3. The final site has been chosen – Painted Desert, about 30km out of Coober Pedy in Northern Australia.
should be done by now. expect news of it either tonight or tomorrow morning.
The current power assisted distance record is 116 ft. set by Colin Winkelman on Dec. 21, 2000 who achieved this on a BMX bike. Rennie will also be power assisted with a tow in from a motorcycle.

News Just In.
http://www.nathanrennie.com/home.htm
NEW WORLD RECORD : 121 feet. Deemed unofficial by Guinness Book of Records because of the crash on landing, Nathan has flown his Santa Cruz V10 Mountain Bike 121 feet from take off ramp to landing three quarters of the way down the exit ramp, flat landing the front wheel and "blowing up". Nathan separated his shoulder and sustained massive gravel rash and bruising from the fine rocks on the desert site. His prized Troy Lee full face helmet saved his life but is smashed beyond future use. The bike is fine. An elated Nathan claims that the setup "was so good we could have gone much bigger and we may do so some time in the future." Whaaaaaahooooooo!!!!!

Having just watched ski jump world champs, i was just wondering if any attempt has been made to jump a bike off one? Obviously it would work better in summer than winter though!! :p The ski guys can go 140 metres plus, imagine how far a bike could go! Hopefully this doesn't sound silly, i just have been thinking about it too much and needed to let it out somehow. Most likely someone will chip and say that it was tried ages ago, if so, i haven't ever heard about it. :o

Rennie went for 121 but it wasn't counted officially because he stacked on landing. I think thats bullshit though, he should at least be recognised with a record for biggest ATTEMPT.
But....this is Rennie we're talking about, he will be back and going bigger in no time
Technically he "landed it", his front wheel blowing up prevented him from riding out of it. IMO :p
So we should give him the record ;) and another prize for having kahuna's the size of coconuts.

The ski guys can go 140 metres plus, imagine how far a bike could go!
Without having any scientific basis for my opinion, I'd say that a bike would struggle to match the skiers. When I've watched ski jumping, those guys seem to kind of "sail" in the air on their enormous skis, so it occurs to me that they would probably get some kind of aerodynamic lift that a dude on a bike wouldn't.
I'd love to be proven wrong, though... by Stomper...

Yeah you are probably right, the best ski jumpers seem to float forever.
However technique and timing off the end of the jump determines alot of distance too.
I think a bike would get would still go quite far due to the speed they would build up, far enough to beat the current distance record anyway.
