Woo-hoo, getting my new bike when I get back to Oz (Giant Reign 2 I reckon unless I get a good price on a speccy enduro) but I'm wondering about what to do with my old one.

It's a 2004 Kona Caldera still in good condition. I'm still going to be using it as a commuter and general knockabout bike however there's a pretty good dirt jump spot near my apartment that could be good for pissing about on during the week. The only thing is, the caldera's more of a recreational XC bike.

Do you think it's a good idea to use it for dirt jumping? I've never really gone in for the whole DJ scene before so it's not as if I'll be cutting sick on the larger jumps and attempting backflips and what-not. I'd probably just be going for the little tacker jumps. Other than the dirt crits on a thursday at westgate park there's not a lot really in the centre of melbourne so it is something to do during the week...

let me know what you all think.

hey,

its not the size of the jump or the technical status of the trick that will bust your frame, its how smooth you ride... you could easily bust a frame on very small jump if you hack the landing.

So, if you want to dirt jump a bit, you should get rid of the kona, get a bmx and learn to do it uber smooth! you could get a 2nd bmx for next to nothing that would be excellent for dirt jumps...

Or you could just jump the kona till its busts - also, the geo on a kona xc bike would really suck for dj, so you may find quite hard - a smaller bike is much better though

Or, just sell the kona and drink the money you get for it...:p

you can get a bmx for near to nothing as said above... and just use the kona as a comuter bike.... you will probably break it trying dj's no matter how big

Argh....struggling...must not comment about Kona Stuff etc geometry....lol

Use the Kona until it breaks, then pick up a replacement of suitable strength.
