Hey guys,
Been a while since I've posted here, but anyway.
I'm currently building up a new wheelset and I was having a look around for skewers. The lightest ones I could find were the Shimano XTR ones (Although some of the Salsa ones did look nice, pretty colours and all). But I won't be using Shimano Hubs on my new wheelset they will be DT Swiss 240's (front and rear), will the skewers be compatiable with non-shimano hubs?
I presume they will, just making sure before I throw any cash in.
Thanks,
- Michael -

Yes they'll fit. I'm using Deore skewers in DT Swiss Onyx hubs

Michael, if you want light, check out the brand new Control Tech Ti Race Bolt-on skewers I'm selling... 48 grams for the pair!
http://forums.farkin.net/showthread.php?t=40220
I believe the XTR QR pair weighs in at about 118-120 grams?
That's way less then half the weight, plus the added benefit of added theft protection. Also, if you're carrying allen keys around with you anyway... why would you need a QR on the wheels? You'd only take it off for a repair anyhow... I surprised more people don't run bolt-on skewers for that reason... seems like needless weight to me....
Ok.... I'll stop my shameless plug now...:o

I dunno why but I'd just rather a quick release skewer.
What if I'm racing and dont have a multi-tool or an allen key (not that I wouldn't but still, there maybe the off chance). Then I would be farked.
Anyways they are bloody light though, but I think I'll stick with the XTR ones, unless anyone has any lighter options?

The xtr skewers are no lighter than most other skewers. The ones i had weighed the same as the skewers that came on my girlfriends schwinn.
There are lots of lighter skewers around as sugested by people above.

Heh... dude, if you're riding around without even an allen key or two on ya, I hope you're just riding to the store or your car is walking distance away! Heck, why bother with bringing a pump, tire levers and a patch kit either!:p

In a race situation, I'd rather a QR than having to frig around with an allen key while my hands are shaking from exhaustion. Doesn't mean I'd race without tools, but I'd still rather have QRs.

Yah I agree, that's kinda what I meant to say.
I was also having a brief look at the Salsa Titanium skewers which are 85grams for a pair I believe (a heap lighter than the XTR), just that I am on a budget so I wasn't initially willing to spend that much.
They say that,
"Lightweight titanium skewers are not recommended for suspension forks, full suspension frames, or riders over 160 pounds. Great for the extremely weight conscious, lightweight XC rider."
So basically the skewers are only meant to be ridden on a fully ridged frame? No offense but there isn't a large majority of lightweight xc riders who ride Fully ridged frames.

Check out www.extralite.com. They have "aliens" titanium skewer set, weight 65g for f/r pair!!! Expensive though. About $200 AU.
They are well worth the coin for a true weight weenie.
