View Full Version : Post MTX socialising this Friday 21st

We all know there'll be heaps of Farkwits about this Friday, and I've a feeling a good percentage will be interested in post-race drinks. The idea's been hinted at a few times, but thus far no real plans have been laid.
So... it's time for everyone to put some ideas forward, and we'll see what we can arrange.
I'm thinking of the rather obvious, meet at Homebush Brewery (next to McDonalds opposite the station) after racing concludes. From there, where to go? It's probably best to get moving by train, and we can go anywhere in the whole city from there. Personally I'd like to go to a venue that's rather open and conducive to socialising and conversation (ie, good for heaps of people to sit around and talk shit), as everyone will want to tell their war stories about corner that got away from them or their slipped pedal on the gate.
All ideas should be considered, with input from everyone welcome. Post what you have in mind and we'll make a great night of it.

Sounds like a good idea. I'm in.

Suggestions? Paddy Mcguires has it all. proper beverages (a better liquid meal than sanitarium could ever dream up), outside seats, inside british ladies, rock cover bands...

And if it pisses down, as could well be the case and we end up with no racing, shall we just head straight there? Be the backup venue?

Wherever this venue turns out to be?

I'm in (for once :o ).
You could head west on the train, out to Paramatta? There are some niceish pubs that way....
There is a nice pub on Paramatta Road at Flemington that has a huge, nice beer garden, but may be a little hard to get to (could train to Flemo, then wander over there?)....

Sounds good, but are people racing or just watching? What will people with bikes do, it is a friday night afterall and will be busy.

There are some pubs around olympic park, maybe just start there and those that wish to punch on through to the city can, but im cool with whatever :)

I think the majority will be sans bikes (at least I will be :D ).
As for pubs @ Olympic Park; there is only the one (the brewery) which has unusual hours, so hopefully will be open for a while post race, but during the week they close early. Would be a good pub to stay at for a while IF it is open, as it is quiet (outside it is anyway), and if we are outside the bikes (if there are any) can be looked after.

Still, if we all meet at the pub as per Rik's original message, we can determine how late it is open for, and make a decision from there.

Those with bikes, well, you'll have to figure things out for yourself. All we can do is post a few meetup times, and hopefully you can tag along from then.

Maybe we should lead by example then and leave all out beer at home

Damn Johnny, that is one ugly.....

will you guys meet to watch the race or just to go and have a few beverages?

Still, if we meet at the brewery at Olympic Park, work out how late that is open to, and let that decide what/where we go, should be a good plan?I just called them, they expect to close about 10-11ish, depending how many people are in the place at the time. They may be open to midnight if it's busy enough to justify it, which I assume it will be. From then, I dunno... get everyone together and then go from there?

Kammy: I personally can't be stuffed trying to meet everyone in the crowd at the actual race, plus I'm more than likely going to be marshalling so I won't be able to meet anyway. You're more than welcome to post your own meetup there if you want. Hint: saying to "meet the emo-looking kid on the STP at turn 1" won't be specific enough, as I assume it'll be crowded/hectic enough to make meeting others a hassle.

Maybe there is the chance I've missed something here.

Kammy says he can't drink - no problem. He's under age, and is NOT asking for alcohol.

Do some people on here imagine that we're going to be giving alcohol to under-age people?

It's against the law, it would be terribly irresponsible. Get a grip people.:)

Just because he tries to PICK UP 14 year olds doesn't make him one himself.....

So what's the go, I'm assuming the races won't be run in the rain? They're forcasting thunderstorms.

I can't see them running it in the wet.

Brand new track + mud + lots of riders = destroyed 4x track.
