I went down to the start of the Crocodile Trophy on Tuesday afternoon (Townsville) to watch these freaks suffer around stage one, and suffer they did. Anyhow, I was having a chat to a few of the competitors before the race start and one of them spoke to me about Mauro Bettin's bike. (U.C.I. World Cup Marathon Champion) Apparently he had spent most of the day leading up to the start stripping his bike of all the 2007 prototype model XTR gear from his bike, so I (and everyone else) couldn't take any photos of the goods. Damn! Could of been a farkin scoop with some snaps.
Anyhow i still managed to find out that the following blinged XTR items are on the production line for 2007: Carbon Crankset, Carbon Rear Derailleur, and carbon brake levers on the STI shifters. I guess we'll have to wait until the big bike shows next year before photos start filtering out through the magazines.
Once again it looks as though Shimano are stepping up to keep in competition with Sram and the likes of Truvativ, FSA etc.
Bring on 2007!
