have a look at the RS revelation, new line this year, v similar fork with QR instead of 20Mil thru axle. either that or maybee the Reba, its a damn good fork for the money.

cheers

You've not phrased a particularly informative question, Mo, because obvious answer is: "Have the forks fitted and go ride your bike"...

However, I'm assuming that you're after more of a response than that, so here goes - the purchase of a fork with 20mm dropouts will mean that your front hub will no longer be compatible with your forks, so you'll have to get a 20mm front hub and get your front wheel rebuilt with the new 20mm front hub.

Quite an expensive solution if you have no real need for the extra stiffness that a 20mm fork offers... Maybe you need to find a more appropriate fork for your bike. I don't know - you didn't say what bike the fork is for...

Exactly as Bodin said.
have you considered the reba; more the xc version of the pike.

yep i've considered the Rebas, but the pikes came in at an incredible value.

well since i dont need extra stiffness and extra expenses i'd stick by the QR

well the bike is a GT ruckus. HT

What exactly do you mean by this Mo? If you are buying from the US (or local of course), the rebas are a little cheaper by memory....

I don't deny that O/S websites offer some great deals, but don't forget to build a good relationship with an LBS.

I've never won a race in my life, but I've always supported my LBS and they now sponsor me and give me amazingly good prices that beat the sh!t out of mail order.

Loyalty pays.

BTW - I use a Reba and it's a great fork that I'd happily recommend for most XC/Trail uses.

dont get me wrong, all the work on my bike is done at spoke(n) and most of my gear as well. in the end i dont justify a 100% markup. + i dont have that much money.

you: sponsored!
me: weekend warrior :)

How do you transport your bike?

That is the real question. If you have a normal sedan and take the wheels off then you dont want to touch qr20's... 4 bolts and an axle to undo on some models to remove (I dont know about Rock Shox, i wouldnt touch em... Personal choice)

The advantage is you can safely run 8" discs on the front, which is supposed to give you better feel :)

The hubs are a little bit more expensive. It can be a pain if you have set of street wheels and offroad wheels, as once again you have to go through the whole undo the bolts to get the wheel off thing.

The marzocchi EXR's are another good fork to look at, or Manitou Blacks..

Check out cambriabike.com in the states, very good prices.. Especially at this time of the year.

Your point is true and I'm glad to see you're spending your hard-earned down at Spoke(n) - great bunch of guys that I know very well and every decent wheelset that I own has been personally built by Russ - the first was while he was at Borsaris and the second was at Spoke(n).

My only point was that I'm not a "race winner", so without a strong relationship with my LBS, I never would have graduated from weekend warrior to a sponsorship.

My wife rides with Pikes on her bike. She's very happy with them... time is equally spent between trail riding and downhill freeriding. Great fork. No complaints.

But we have to move our two bikes and ourselves around in a hatchback, and I gotta say, the Maxle is one of the best innovations in the biking world in the past couple of years. It is AWESOME. Stiff 20mm axle, that is SO fast and easy to take off and put on... it's practically faster than normal QR! Taking off her 20mm axle (with a Hope Bulb front hub) is dreamy. Not something you should justify a purchase of a fork for, but definitely a considerable selling point. Heck, Rockshox is putting the Maxle on other forks in their line now, which shows a successful first year. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes the defacto standard soon....

AS Techno says, the maxle is so fast and so easy it isn't funny. I don't use it as much as I should, as I am used to the DJII 20mm system which was a biatch to use. The maxle however is (as Techno says) as fast if not faster then standard QR, and well worth the investment for the bigger disc option and stiffness.

i dont drive (people power) so fitting it on a car or whatever isn't going to bother me at all.

obvisouly i will need another hub, etc...
but if the performance of the fork negates the extra expenses then i dont mind going the 20mm maxle.

anyone advise me on some other forks. ???
