Well my girlfriend has decided to take up our awesome sport and is looking for a dual suspension bike for mainly trailriding, dirt jumping and 4x. She is tossing up between these bikes. There are a few pics up.
Specialized: Enduro, FSR stumpjumper or SSX
TREK: Remedy5 or WSD Fuel
Ironhorse: MK 111 expert
Giant: Reign
Input is greatly appreciated,
Thanks
If its easier with links i may do that, let me know?
Hey matt, im a great fan of the specialized Enduro, the one with the Fox 36ers and DHX Air, i was thinking about getting one myself
That would be my pick
Yeh i like the SSX. They look great. I think you would be happy with that.
Have you had a look at the Jamis Dakar ??

Yeah, i like em but she dont. She loves the SSX (and so do i) but i think its a bit burly for her.

Dakar come with a nice spec, but we seem to be getting alot back with snapped chainstays, i reckon stay away from them.

I don't think you could really go wrong with any of those bikes, although my personal prefernce would probably be the Enduro that looks like a true do anything bike.
Trek fuel Ex7 WSD 06"
women specific design, squishier seat, more comfortable riding position (less agressive, bars are raised more). different lever blade, and squishier grips, had a ride on while whilst building them freaken show bikes.
PINT of Stella, mate!

I think a lot will depend on how much you're willing to fork out...
I'd go Speccy Enduro myself but then again if you're willing to put up with the mass-production stigma go for the Reign. It's not quite an absolute downhill beeyatch but it's got enough travel to hold it's own in any streetfight with a drunken sailor and it's price (if you go for the Reign 2) will leave you with enough change to go upgrade yer own bike!
Alternatively you could just dump her for a Louis Vuitton bag, Paris Hilton idolising loving slapper and save yourself a couple of bucks...
(Probably not as much fun though!:D )

I will recommended a Reign to anyone in regards to Trail bike as I own the 2006 Reign 2.....
BUT.
Maybe a Stumpjumper FSR with FOX Talas 130 is the answer in this case. I am not sure of your Girlfriend's riding ability nor her size and height, but the Stumpy is pretty light compare with all the ones you mentioned. The more she rides the more she will appreciate this point IMHO. On top of that Specialized also has a women specified version of stumpy that might suits her.
On a side note, what about an Ellsworth Moment? They seems pretty light and sturdy.

i've got a 2005 enduro pro. my girl rides a 2005 fsr stumpy, women specific. both are great bikes. she uses hers for trails and xc racing. she has also started learning to jump it. ( table tops only). the enduro jumps well despite the fact that i have it set up in the high bottom bracket/ steep head angle set up. i like it so much i have a 2006 enduro sx on it's way that i will set up more for 4x, jumping etc. i think the stumpy is a good choice for a girl unless she is seriously hard core. ( for a girl)

shit hot bikes! definately the pick of the bunch. 'dirt' were doing tests runs, and the specialized beat an intense m3 down the exact same track, exact same rider, exact same conditions...

Your GF needs to ride them all - or as many as practical - I'd be the reign would sueprise her.
hi i justvoited for the giant reign... woops! i meant to vote for the specialized enduro (how did i get the mixed up???). anyway, i have heard nothign but good things about the enduro, and they are spec'd very nicely. from what i have heard and read, they pedal very well, and also take small to meium bumps extremely well, though aren't the best on the bigger hits. i like the general feel of the bike, and yeh, its what i recommend!

hey, has she considered the weiht on these bikes at all?
ive ridden most of these bikes as demos and found the reighn was actualy a little heavy for me (tho i am quite smakll framed), i have had an enduro myselfsnd it did wonders for me. specialized vote from me!

Thanks for everyones input. Although most people voted for the enduro, IMO it was too heavy and overkill for the riding she'll be undertaking. Should be some action shots up from her maiden ride by next week.
