depending on your buget, go with some 04 boxxer teams cheap or with the 03 boxxer teams
good luck mate

you should be able to get a nice pair of boxxor race if you lucky, they go around 600ish

There is a nice set of 03 super Ts for sale for $500 in the for sale forum at the moment.
Alternatively try to get some 04 Boxxer Teams.
I wouldn't suggest the sherman or the 03 boxxer, but thats just me.

go boxxer os supoer t, shimans are sooooo un reliable well my mates are......
I'd hunt around for some SuperT's too personally.

What's the difference? They are the same, and both feel like arse.

Yeah, who wants low speed compression damping or any kind of attitude control anyway?
For $700 you should be able to find some 03 Teams in good condition, maybe even some 04s. I'd stay away from the Sliders, they're not a very sensitive fork.

Unless you get a TPC+ mod and pissoff the SPV. Costs a tad more, but well worth it.

03 and 04 team are the same fork, correct me if i'm wrong. And they both feel like crap IMHO, I stand by my statement.
Also, there's no reason you can't have LSC damping and NOT have the fork feel like it's full of sand - obviously fox figured out how to do it, marzocchi have done it, and who knows, maybe RS have finally got it right for 06 also. Maybe. :)

I'll buck the trend, got Shermans and love 'em. They are a little on the fussy side maintenance wise but it's not exactly hard. Lube 'em up every few months and it's all good. Personally I reckon they feel dramatically nicer than Boxxers.

03 and 04 are not quite the same (the 03s needed something drilled out, can't remember what, but if that's done yeah they're the same). Yep, Fox, Manitou and now RS have got LSC damping and feel smooth as; time will tell if Marzocchi jumps on the bandwagon  . Your 888s felt smooth, but g0t dive? Same as every single other Marz fork I've ridden... personally I'd rather put up with the slightly harsher feel from Boxxers than have my forks try to bottom out every time I looked at the front brake or thought about turning.

Get your hand off it... 03 Teams were shite until you ran some pro mods on them, but the 04 Teams are one of the better feeling, good value forks around. I'd rather a set of '04 Teams than any '04 888.
I knew i'd have to put my battlesuit on with that one.
TBH I really don't have any dive issues with the 888, just like i'm sure you don't notice your boxxer feels like it is full of sand when you are flying down a dh track.
RS's current damping does not feel "smooth as" in any aspect, especially LSC - at least that's been the case for almost every boxxer i've ridden. I know it's not just me, because 888's, Supers, 40's, Monsters.... none have the same sandy feeling.
I haven't tried the new 06 888's, but obviously the LSC feature is now incorporated, and if it feels anything like the later monsters (which coincidentally feel VERY similar to the fox40's, apart from the weight difference) then they should be quite nice.
BTW guys - I didn't even mention the 888, I only mentioned the SuperT - which I think (from what I have felt of the 03's) has more LSC damping than the 888 anyway. It also feels much nicer than the boxxers IMO but hey.... to each their own.
The "smooth as" thing was referring to the Motion Control damping. If you've ridden an 06 Boxxer or any Pikes you'll understand - just as smooth as anything else out there, but they actually having LSC! Yaay!
Yes! I have ridden pikes and can't agree more, MUCH nicer than that of old.
My comments were directed at the boxxer forks from 03 through to 05.
Yeah, I'll agree that they're not the smoothest thing out there (although they do feel damn nice for a few rides after a service), but - compared to Marzocchi's offerings - the tradeoff for the harsher feel (not that there is much of a difference when you're riding; I compared my supers and boxxers pretty much back to back) is better attitude control.

Eh? You've gotta ride some decent Boxxers then mate. They do provide a bit more feedback than Marz forks but I reckon that only contributes to them providing more "feel" in the corners.
Nearly every Marz fork I've ridden has practically no LSC damping anyway so it's hard to compare the two in that aspect.
Just thought I'd clear a few things up! Both the 03 and 04 teams require the ''black box mod'' which is simply to drill a slightly larger hole (3mm drill bit i think) in the high speed compression chamber, to stop the ''oil cavitation'' which hydraulically stiffens the fork after multiple hits. I have done this to my 04 teams, as well as using high quality Motul oil and a signifigant amount of M-prep under the dust seals and they are now a kick arse fork.

The 03 teams need a different compression circuit to be "black boxed".
The hole that you drill bigger is bigger by two halves of bugger all.
I bought the drill bit and went to drill the hole, and found it was almost that big anyway?
A bit of advice to all the fork re-builders out there - whatever oil you use make sure you get fork "fluid", it has a few additives to stop cavitation,
IMO though Maxima is the best.
