View Full Version : You Yangs
Hey guys,
I realise it's very short notice, but a few mates and i are heading up to the You Yangs tomorrow (friday) morning, sometime between 9-11am. I'll know the exact time later tonight.
As we're mostly unfit/injured MTB nubies, we'll just be riding some of the easier trails, and may ride the great circle drive.
If anyone wants to ride with us, or do your own thing and just meet up somewhere for a chat, send me a PM or post here and i'll give you my mobile number.

Damn... I was going to head up their on Saturday, I will more than likely doing laps of the flat track (Western Plantation) trying to get my bike ready for next weeks Gravity 12hr. Unfortunatly I can't make it Firday as I have to work :-( Damn Work!
Atmo - Your tyres are enroute.
We'll be getting there at around 12pm and will be around for at least few hours. At this stage there'll be just two of us as a couple of the other guys cant make it tomorrow.
I'll be back again on saturday though (with the guys that cant get there on friday), so i might see you there Cul.
I'll be on a black giant alias, my friend will be riding a mongoose wing.

Can someone enlighten me?
Where do I find all these tracks at the You Yangs? I have been there only once, but didn't have much idea where to go. I ended up just going to the top off the hill/lookout and finding my way back down via a fire trail.
Any directions will help!!:D
Cheers!

I will hopefully be there tomorrow- weather prevailing, I dont want to get my new rig all muddy plus the sweet single track is much better when the sun is out.
Beefcake - I am riding Solo at the Gravity, this will be my second Gravity, I did the first one in 2003 as a pair- great event. I will be riding a black Titus Racer-X , fox forks, SRAM gear... Yellow helemt, and shoes! :)

I'll be doing the same, send a txt or give me a call if you do head out there.
By the way, the tyres arrived today. :)

Sorry beefcake - I didnt see this post.
There are two MTB areas at the YouYangs, they are quiet different and cater for everyone in my opinion.
The first area is the Western Plantation also known as the Flat Track, basicly it's a 7km loop carved out into what is mostly flat single track- this is a pefect place for beginners, people who cant be assed climbing, or even a training loop. There is some technical sections- but mostly it's just fast single track, with a drop, a few dips etc... Good fun.
The Western Plantation isnt actually in the park itself, it's off Sandy Creek Rd on the left (if coming from Lara), there is a carpark about 200m down from the corner.
The Second area is the Stockyards, this area is full of single track, fast downhills, loads of technical rocks, drops, climbs and fast flowing DH single track- this area is a favorite of mine. I haven't been up there in a while though. There is a DH course (please dont break open the gates on the man made stuff), a few XC / trail loops all of which you can join into a good half days worth of riding. Good fun.
The Stockyards is at the back end of the park, accessable from Drysdales Rd, there is a carpark on the left. It is also accessable from the top of the area on Great Circle Drv, there is a carpark there... The top looks like an open padock with a fire road, alot of the singletrack stems off this.
I hope this helps.
