i believe it is to minimise chain stretch or something. i know there is a perfectly rational and reasonable reason for it but i cant remember what it is.

Amazing bike - looks very burly. Is it primarily a hucker, or can you use it for DH?

Despite the fact that it's marketed as a racer, it's a huck sled. Just ask other Cornfield owners. Does your mate do his helmet up too?

Ummmm.....don't quote me on this, but I think it is to eliminate/reduce pedal bob.

Ummmm.....don't quote me on this, but I think it is to eliminate/reduce pedal bob. nay, as the suspention compresses, the axle moves backwards on these, thus the length of chain between the casette and chainring extends, pulling the pedals backwards, not a nice feeling at all, that pulley fixes it bb7s and PDC racing have them as well

Thats correct.
A rearward axle path moves in the direction that the bump hits the wheel, allowing the suspension to absorb the bump more effectively without slowing you down so much.
Imagine a wheel swinging out of the way where as a forward wheel path effectivelly punchs into the object and hesitating with each hit. Now imagine hitting something like 500 bumps in a race, it adds up to alot of time and momentium loss.

It's a 65-66 head angle with a 888.

A sneek peek. The new Lucky 7-8 in travel freeride/dh bike. Cromo front, 7005 rear and 20mm pivots.

VPP Canfield!!! - thats so hot. And I love the idea of having a cromo front (isnt the new Eastern duely''s front end made from cromo too?).

The frame and DHX 5.0 should be right around $2250 US dollars. Available may-ish. MTBFactory is the distributer in Ausi. The rims are A-Class Kaprun. They seem nice so far. I've got a month of hard use coming up (riding all day every day, hell ya) so we will see.

The Formula 1 is effectively 'VPP' as well, ie floating rear triangle.

Wow, doesn't look like there is much room to move above the shock reservoir. Nice bike tho, the forks are huge.
