hey guys,

im after a loan for $10k. preferably with no more than 12% interest. and it will be over 2 years. i've found the car i want, so id like to sort this out as soon as i can

im after an institution that is
a) aussie wide, as this loan will be taken out in tassie
b) no fuss to set up. ive just started working again, and i have a small amount i can deposit straight into it. although one bank i went to refused me because i havent been working for 12 months. so a bank or other institution that loans without needing to have a recent working history would be good. not all of us have jobs already, some of us (ie: me) just got them.
c) have cheap set up fees, and dont charge much or anything for large lump sum payments.
d)do or do not require a guarantor. i dont mind on this either way, as i have access to a guarantor if necessary.
e) can be sorted in the next 2 weeks or so.
f) car specific loans are desirable, as they attract less injury than a personal loan most of the time.

thanks for the help. points b and e are more important than the rest, but any suggestions are welcome.

suggest away farkiners. id be interested to hear from the younger members who have cars (kona sp, etc)

most banks finacial institutions will give you the funds within 2 weeks, be aware that the older the car the higher cost the loan is ie- i wanted a loan for a similar thing but the car was too old and so the loan would´ve been considered a personal loan, therefore jacking up the interest on the loan to whopping 13%

If the car is new (ish) you are more likely to get a car specific loan which could be as low as 6% - but obviously that depends on what car, how old etc...

They will ask for a rego number and probably some details about the car as technically they will 'own' it until you pay out the loan.

I guess just read ALL of the fine print as you can easliy get caught out.

Try some credit unions as i find they usually have the easiest proccess - painless and usually cheap.

I think the Bank of Melbourne gave about 10% on a used car loan of up to 8 years old or something along those lines, I dont think they have Aussie wide branches, but you dont need it as you obviously have internet and therfore net banking etc...

But all banks and institutions will give you all the info you need on loans, usually you can down load a pdf too.

Hope that helps

I'm pretty sure an ANZ variable car loan would be sufficient. I just got a $17,000 personal loan from them.

thanks for the replies guys. since bank of melbourne has been swallowed up by westpac, i guess the products would be available through them. ill hit up a few banks tomorrow and see what is available.

commonwealth bank offer loans with centerlink as a form of previous income, so that might come in handy as i dont have a recent work history in months (only started working last week). shall see what happens.

cheers,
