yeah, i like the illusion tattoos, they look funny when showed off but when they are just sitting there on somones arm, they look stupid,

ie, if this guys arm was by his side when he walks, it might look strange

$80 for a tattoo is very very cheap. Just be careful you don't end up with shoddy work.

nahh, it is very small, i am only 16, the guy said he would do it though, and i dont want my parents to find out!

Arete

No it's not me.

It's ok if it's really small I guess. Most artists charge over $100 an hour so the price had me a little bit sceptical.

 sigh...... Why do people always say stuff like that??

I think of tattoo's the same way as i think of scars, each one tells a little story and reminds me of a time and place in my life.

If he's nice enough to look past how illegal it is to tattoo you underage he might be nice enough to look past how illegal it is to use needles more than once and not autoclave his equipment too :)

use the next 2 years to plan out designs/research/build up a collection of tat mags and find out something that is really fucken awesome. or put together a scrap book of stuff you really like. no need to rush it :). whats 2 years compared to 60-80 years!!!

HIV from Dirty Shazza who works halfway up Gray Street, St Kilda! :D

Seriously though, The most annoying question/statement in the world (well regarding tatts anyway) is (adopting lame-o spazz voice)"what's that gonna look like when you're 70?"

WHAT THE FUCK AM I GONNA LOOK LIKE WHEN I'M SEVENTY!

I can't really see me getting into the tops-off action in nightclubs at that age so what difference does it fucking make!?

Hell, If my skin's still taut enough at that age to show off I'll be getting them re-inked!

Tools!

Even if your tatts do bleed out and your skin goes all wrinkly and prune like they still act as little postcards and reminders from a more reckless youth!

Most tatts have a story, whether it's one about a cheeky young monkey using his 16th birthday money and lying about his age to the artist, or a mad night you can barely remember in Thailand, Amsterdam, Shanghai etc or the name of that thieving harridan who cleaned you out of half your savings and got the house and the dog in the divorce, etched across your heart!

Every tatoo is unique, even the crap ones!

postscript: cracked up when i saw Steve-o's tatt again! class!

Most tatts have a story, a mad night you can barely remember in Thailand!

sounds like mine hehe

but yeah, i dont think people who get all stressed out about a tat and how it will look later on should get one, thats not what its about... IMO you need a bit of a ´i dont really give shit about that´ kind of attitude, otherwise you`ll stress yourself and end up not liking it or regretting getting it done.

A mate of mine got a sick full sleeve of a transformers battle, the whole way up his arm, full colour, full sleeve, its a fuckn rad tat;)

Mate, that sounds ace. Any chance of a pic?

I've been collecting pics of tatts for a couple of years now and I've got a few books on them as well. The newer stuff is unbelievable in detail.

And for everyone that asks if I'm going to regret them when I get older - the way I drive, I don't have to worry about getting older.

Hahaha, I can imagine my ol' folks would flip out and call me a homo if i got a tatt, i would rather keep the money and get pissed....or get some clothes or something along those lines, instead of changing my skin colour.

I wouldn't mind a tatt, just would be small.

I am with Lollies, if you're 16, wait. It's highly illegal for anyone to tattoo you know and if they're going to break the law for $80... I mean come on, either he's a) desperate for cash, which has got to make you wonder if he will buy good quality tools, ink and sterilisation gear and use it b) desperate for the practice, which says evrything really or c) an idiot.

This one's pretty straightforward. like you say, it lasts a lifetime, so what's 2 years gonna be?

One for the bodyboarders among us:D. Beau Day is the dude busting over the wave and Steve Roach is the guy riding DK, got the pics out of one of the Riptide annuals. I got it done about 4 or 5 years ago across the bottom of my back, I figured that this way if it bleeds or fades or my skin goes all wrinkly then I cant see it so it doesnt bother me:). I will only get a tat where I can cover it up when and if I need to.
If all you can think about is what you are gonna look like at 70 then think of how much time you spend in the sun, how many times you have cut or scratched yourself, how many bones youve broken. I think a wrinkled tattoo will be the least of your worries:rolleyes:
I will get another tat soon up the top of my back. I just have to figure out how to incorporate the southern cross, the sun and a few other bits and pieces without it looking like a piece of crap. My parents got a bit of a shock at first but they got over it...they would get more of a shock from finding out where I have a couple of piercings then another tat me thinks:eek:

The cleverness on these forums is staggering.

THINK for a second:

You are going to have this tattoo FOR LIFE. You will forever be judged by this tattoo when people see it. Here's your chance to make a statement about yourself that you will probably have until you die.

1. Wait until you're legal age.
2. During that time, carefully ponder what you'll be proud of to have one your body 20 years from now.
3. Once you've decided, question it. Then question it some more. Is it really a good idea?
4. After you've REALLY thought it over, DO NOT BE CHEAP. Get the best tattoo artist you can find after research, and SPEND MORE MONEY than $80. Money should be no object here!

Be ready to drop several hundred dollars on this tattoo. Get it done right, by the best, the FIRST time.

I've seen WAY too many dumbass shit tattoo's to risk inflicting another one on my eyes.

[Disclaimer: This whole post is extremely sarcastic. But sadly true...]

If your just masocistic try burning yourself, or get friends to do it for you. I reccomend Cigarettes, Cigars, Lighters or Soldering Irons. We all love second degree burns and serious infections, right?

How about trying ghetto tattoos, ie with an electric toothbrush, sewing needle and Pen Ink. Just note to self, the toothbrush attatchment moves in circular motion. So I hope your friend is a good artist.

[End Disclaimer]

Serious, think about them. I have planned multiple tattoos, and rejected many Ideas. Think about your first tattoo as something to buy when you save money for a serious design you like. Find your design, and if after you have saved the money [away from normal expendatures] consider whether that design is still appropriate. And whether you want that particular tattoo that much...

Tats are wicked, for sure. But they require a lot of planning, resources and time. Ask around, and start up conversations with local tattooists. Then go to the one which you think has the most knowlege, and that you like the work in their portfolio. Choose your tattooist wisely. And if you like their work, keep going there. Frequent customers are usually subject to discounts, just as in bike shops.

And good luck. Dont get a good tattooist busted because your underage.

Ha Ha I am good friends with Beau, I am gonna show him this pic!!

2 of my tattoos are planned, 2 are random. Once I just had a few hundred buck burning a hole in my pocket, grabbed my fave CD at the time & got the album cover tattooed. There is a lot to be said for spontanaity (sp?) but for big works I 'd plan at least a couple of months.

I have been preparing for my sleeve for about 2 years seriously, but I have wanted it ever since I heard Motley Crue :)

Thats tops:D . I think if my memory serves me correctly that it was out of either the 2001 or 2002 riptide photo annual. It was on one of the first few pages as a pic for an ad.
Tell him that I'll let him touch it (does that sound wrong???) if he sends me a board:D :D

If people wish to judge me by my tattoos and piercings then that is their own stupid fault. There is much more to me then ink and bits of metal, I have a razor sharp wit and phenomanal beauty as well:D . I relise a tat is for life but the way I figured, I have been in the surf/ water ever since I could walk so whats gonna stop me from staying in the water

Years ago I spent ages with an artist friend of mine (who used to sell his designs to a number of tattoo artists around Sydney) designing a few Tattoos for myself... I just never went and got them applied, mostly because I am the worlds least trusting person, I couldn't find any artists I really trusted enough not to screw it up, partly because it cost too much (lame excuse, I probably could have afforded it if I really wanted to), partly because I didn't want to get hurt! (which I wouldn't have minded so much if it was guaranteed to come out looking like I wanted it to, but getting hurt for a bad job...)

That was like 15 years ago, and I've kinda regretted never having had them done.

My GF wants to buy me some hours under the needle for christmas. I'm considering taking her up on it.
