Ok i write this in curiosity.. You know how you have them lil fascinations with things most people wouldnt really look twice at as being a reasonable thing to have a fascination with.. the ones that people will generally turn around and laugh at you when you tell them..
Well i have decided to confess mine!
What has recently not only baffled my bf but my family is my new found fascination with the Amish religion..
Ok so its a little bit out there.. but i have done some research on them and quite frankly, i find them fascinating because.. they live completly different to us, including when you look at christianity and judism being the main religions in this society.. Their days are far more eventful than ours are.. they create what they own, they get up at 4 30 every morning to milk the cows.. etc.. they generally dont believe in embracing technology how ever i did some research recently to find out that they use disposable diapers and
cellfones (in emergency).
Im not trying to say i am converting into Amishnisim??? meh.. but i do find reading about how people live their lives completly different to what we would call the "norm" completly intriguing.
Anyway due to my fascination, i could go on about this for ages but im not..I am curious to find out what your fascinations are..
No need to reply if you dont want to, its a fairly random thread but im just curious once again.. so do share..
If not, safe and happy riding.. xoxo :D

Yeh, I have one with random, out of place humor in movies and t.v shows.
They just trip my out, it's hard to explain exactly what I mean, but it's a joke, or situation in a movie, or tv show, that is just wierd and though it makes sense I have no idea why it's there or how they came up with the idea.
For example in the simpsons, the epsiode where bart becomes a boy scout or something, he sets a trap for homer, and theres a pie sitting on the kitchen floor, and homer see's it and says "ohh floor pie". That makes me laugh so much more than anything else, why a "floor pie"? has he seen one before? is it a normal thing to him?
another is in Scrubs, where Dr. Cox is giving J.D some advice, he says "always keep an eye out for johnny the tackling alsiemers patient" then walks off leaving J.D puzzled, and we hear "who am I?" shouted and J.D gets crashed tackled into a storeroom.
That show is pretty out there as it is, with all the daydreams and all, but that one is just strange.
meh I could go on, but they are just out of place jokes.. with a fair amount of effort and detail that really have no purpose.
This doesnt mean I like shows like family guy, which is constantly random......

I ahve to agree with this i do this aswell, people will be laughing at the mainparts (the ones that are made to be funny) but im laughing at the wierder part. "ohh floor pie" has to be the funniest lines in the simpsons. Another thing i find funny is when people change there names for public sites like hotmail, i read many of the a find them funny as!

lockpicking is great fun kinda illegal to carry lock picking stuff on you but hey its for the bike oh and i its scary how easily and quickly you can pick a bike lock
on the topic of simpsons quotes my fave is the one where homers collecting and selling grease
homer: woo hoo 68 cents
bart: uhh homer the bacon for that grease cost 12 bucks
homer: yes but the bacon was brought with marges money
bart: but marge gets her money from you
homer:and i get money from grease so whats your point
that always cracks me up for some reason

Boats, not your sleek yachts but yer big arse cargo ships, Tankers, barges etc.
I've also got a thing for oil rigs and to a lesser extent mad buildings.
I get to work on them but it's a fascination that was there long before I started work.
I'm not entirely sure why? I supose something's got to tickle your inner geek!
Also for some reason I cannot begin to fathom. The inclusion of helicopters into any movie improves the film by at least 20% and may even make the movie into something truly great!
Examples: Apocalypse Now, Mission Impossible 1 and 2 , Most Bond films, Black Hawk Down, Airwolf (technically a pilot episode but fuck it!), Double Impact, Die hard, Predator, Blue Thunder, Outbreak (crap film, good helicopter scenes)
And think about the movies that don't have helicopters:
Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Kangaroo Jack, Gigli, Braveheart, Waterworld, Bridget Jones' Diary, Home Alone.
I rest my case...

Yeap, I'm constantly amazed by most of nature, if only for the scale of it. Look at some of the gullies and canyons in the mountains and think that they were formed by processed of errosion. My mind boggles as soon as I try and comprehend the amount of time that it takes for stuff like that to happen.
Life and the world in general fascinates me, I get caught up in all sorts of trivial quirky interests. I enjoy living with child-like amazement of the simplest things, even if others think it's immature. Specifically, the man-made world is what gets my attention... from the smallest object like how a piece of wire is made, all the way up to a massive bridge structure that relies on wires to hold it together.

Oh, something else that I really am amazed at is sound reproduction. How can you get such a complex sound form from a bunch of tiny little divots on a compact disc, and how can a simple speaker cone produce the layers of waves.

my infacuation with music from artists such as aphex twin, squarepusher, venetian snares etc, has really filled that gap ive been searchin for so hard, best described as either experimental drum n bass, or drill n bass, corresponds quite well to rock music, closely reflects radio static in what seems to be no logic to the human ear. but somehow the beat doesnt flow, its jumps all over the place.

I find watching animals fascinating.
Where we live we get daily visits from cool little birds, stupid big birds (that eat all the food left for the little birds) and squirrels. I put out a new type of feeder last night that hopefuly will let the little birds eat in peace, at the mo they seem to be loving it. :)
All of the squirrels now have their winter clothes on and look quite dashing in their grey fluffy suits and long furry ears. It's fascinating how in summer their fur turns a beautiful brown colour that is short in length and quite glossy looking. Makes you want to pat them if only they'd let you!
Also in our local area we have many hares who are active mostly at night. Hooley dooley they are big! Some of them are nearly as big as dogs!! We also have a gaggle of wild pheasants that live close by. The fascinating part is how such a scrumptious type of bird manages to avoid becoming someones dinner every night. :p Seriously though, it's really cool seing them just do their thing roaming around as free as ..... , well, birds!
Occasionally we had visits from a few little hedgehogs, i always get stoked when i see one of those. I was told they like to drink milk but so far my timing hasn't been good enough to actually see them drinking what i have left for them. :(
However the single most fascinating instance occured when i was on my way home from work one morning. Standing beside some trees were three Moose(s)!! That was freaky, at first i thought they were overly large rabbits :o but when they started to move they just kept getting bigger and bigger (i was very tired after being at work all night). Then they started to run and were headed in the same direction as me at first, only to change course and run off into the darkness. I'll remember that for a long time.
So i guess animals are what i find fascinating. I should also mention my dog here too, man he is cool! Probably the best dog i have ever had!!
edit: oops, missed the part about people laughing at my fascination!!
OMG U SERIOUS UR SO HARDCORE !!!!1!!!!1

l'm fasinated with the whole teenage high which ' group ' your in or not.
Quite interesting really if you know what l mean.
I wonder why smart-ass ' cool group ' pinners can pick on people that are much stronger than them. WHy is it that the guy that gets picked on, why does he fight back. Is it because he hangs around the popular girls, is it becuase he talks to people in older grades. Or he gets handshakes from the 'cool' year 9 guys??
or why is it that one of the girls in the 'popular' group gets called a slut for given her boyfriend a handjob when all the other girls are going to do it sooner down the track???
[\ l am not talking out of experinence, just my powers of observation/]

Dont the amish have this special period in life when they are between 16 and 18 where they try western culture, they end up having huge parties, doing dugs, having sex and orgies. Then after that they decide if the want to go stay armish or leave the religion and way of life.

A black hole dosnt "go" anywhere. its just a star, collapsed so small that its gravity wont let light out. hence the black.

Space fascinates me. Human intelligence (or a lack thereof) also fascinates me. I find the way we have evolved absolutely amazing, such that we use complex machines, and post things on message boards, and are generally pretty damn complex. I mean, even something like an opinion. I don't know if any other animal has the ability to have one, just something so simple. The way we have raped our surroundings to apparently 'suit' our lives, another expression of our complexity. I just find, as Johnny said, that it is absolutely incomprehensible how we start of as two tiny Zygotes, and develop [for the most part] into something entirely fantastical. I am also amazed at our ability to learn, our methods of teaching, and our learning curve, which I beleive is pretty steep.

"reign of fire" it had helicopters and sucked big time!
ok so perhaps nothing could have saved it but the helicopters certainly didn't. Oh and the fact they had an apache on the cardboard cut outs and flyers and not one bloody apache in the actual film, just some silly bell thing.
Dont mind me I'm still bitter, it was talked up to me "as like there are these helicopters right, and they fight dragons, head to head and stuff its going to be totally cool you gotta come see it" i'd pay full price to see helicopters fight dragons. (I know that goes against the student code)
What does facinate me is how some people can go round with their eyes shut. I can never understand these people who "hate politics", especially when they play the game so hard in a small scale, the local bowling club for instance, they will bitterly fight against so an so geting position X but as soon as you try and engage them on a larger scale they "hate politics". weird.

Thats a very closed-minded view of the situation. The fact is they have a much much greater impact than 'just' a collapsed star and prove to be large problems for the laws with which we use to describe our universe.

I love sharks as well! Although the ridiculous thing is that i am terrified of them at the same time. :( If i ever saw a particularly aggressive species in the water i would most likely have a heart attack. :o
However from a purely appreciative standpoint i think they are an incredible creature, i try and watch any decent documentary that is on.
Another interest that has developed recently is airplanes, i have become a bit of a plane-spotter. I get to see them nearly everyday and am always fascinated by landings and take-offs.
I have found a site recently that is dedicated to airplane videos and it is way cool imo!

My biggest fascination is the people. Well more accurately society and everything to do with us, how society is a fabrication of man, societies norm's, taboo's and everything to do with it. People’s relations how people can be fuckwits, good blokes, how people can be manipulated by using very similar words, and ever tiny thing about people fascinates me.

Another couple of things that fascinate me are:
1st: http://www.dictionary.com simply because.. you go there and even if you spell the word ridiculously wrong when you go to search for it, it still manages to read what your trying to search for.. lame i know.. simple things amuse simple minds.
2nd: http://www.subservientchicken.com because... if you go to that link you'll see what im talking about.. Its a person dressed up in a chicken suit in a small unit with some typical furniture and what not and basically you tell the chicken what to do.. for instance if you tell him to jump or hide behind the couch or lounge as its an american site, he will do it and if you tell him to do something sexual he or maybe its a she.. never thought of that but anyway "it" comes up the screen and looks at you with these piercing green eyes and shakes his finger at you.. the part that fascinates me about it is how the whole thing works.. i mean is someone really sitting there in a computer room behind the flat or something with a microphone telling the person in the suit what to do?? if that is the case, thats the other part about it that fascinates me.. who the hell has that much time on their hands!
Ok so they are both kinda lame but i do find them both fascinating..
Keep safe :D :o

Not a fascination, more a habit. When I change the sound on a tv, cd player etc. It MUST be on an even number. I've tried to leave it on an odd number, but it just annoys me so much and gives me a consience (sp).
Fascination - I have a fascination for minature things. E.g. I'd rather have a minature playing card than a normal sized one, The small cd's instead of normal sized ones. Mini versions of the real thing just seem so much better.
How often do yous stare at the night sky above and wonder if the operator on the other end of the spy-satelite is thinking:"look at that guy looking at us and scratching his bum, what an ass..." ?
And yes, we should start a thread on astrophysics.

It's always funny to watch the faces people make when they are walking in the rain, nearly everyone has the same expression!

Rooks, please pay attention at school, your spelling is atrocious!
And personally i feel that nothing is outside the realms of possibility. Who are we to say that life after death is impossible. You would have to actually die to find out!
Until then it is more a matter of faith, something for us mortals to hang onto to make our small existences seem that little bit more important.

Oh, something else that I really am amazed at is sound reproduction. How can you get such a complex sound form from a bunch of tiny little divots on a compact disc, and how can a simple speaker cone produce the layers of waves.
I used to be confused by that, but now my simple answer is always a varient of "you just can."
My obsession is with random humour, pointless, stupid anything I just love it, sometimes I can't help laughing whenever someone says something similar or if I'm explaining it I'm already laughing so hard I just don't know why. Family Guy, Simpsons, South Park, Tension (bodyboarding movies, love their pranks) Futurama, even Spongebob, I love that movie haha. Anything thats pointless and out there is easily gonna sell to me.

I wanna be reincarnated as a box. We learnt about this in Christian Studies at school, and we had to make a short play on it. And this is how it went:
Jesus is sitting at a table and he asks the first guy if he believes in God. The first guy says, I believe in you because I can see you now, but can you reincarnate me as a turtle? I have been practising all my life. Jesus says "Sorru, I cannot do that but, would you like to tell me how you died?" The guy says "I stayed underwater practising to be a turtle too long...." Jesus hands the guy a bible and says come back after you have read this.
The next guy comes to the table, and Jesus asks "How did you die?" The guy says "I was busy smoking Cane Toad and I didn't realise I was riding off a cliff." Jesus says "Do you think you are worthy to get into heaven?" the guy says "do they have cane toads in heaven?" Jesus says "No" and then sends him to hell
The third guy comes to the table and Jesus asks him "How did you die?" the guy answers "I blew up an aeroplane with hundreds of people on it, including me." Jesus answers "so you are a terrorist?" the guy replies "yep sure am" Jesus sends him to hell.....
The first guy comes back with the bible under his arm and says I have read this and I believe in this religion of yours. Jesus grants him welcome to heaven.
Sorry, I probably didn't need to post that but it was funny at the time.
My weird fascination is probably with the childrens TV show paper, I mean how do they make a tree into that?
Cheers

Watching people dance.
You can tell alot about the personality of a person by observing them getting wiggy with it on the dance floor; particuarly if they are involved in an attempted mating ritual.
My detestment of nightclubs has seen this study in behaviour a long-distant thing of the past; but it used to be really interesting watching people make complete fools of themselves as a consequence of out-of-wack hormones and fueled by alcohol, thinking they are priming a certain conquest, who was largely struggling to find the best way to exit the dance floor never to be seen again.
Want a laugh and be scared at the same time? Go to a place where you'll find people in their 50's+ trying to dance themselves to a root. Priceless!

Seriously, it's incontinence-inducing material.

Things that fascinate...hmm...
Watching a bird fly, thats something incredible.
And yes, on TV shows when the smallest thing just makes you piss yourself.
E.G on family guy when Peter goes to buy a new car. The sales rep sees them, bolts out of the building, pushes a guy to the ground, runs over the roof of a car and rushes over to Peter. I found that the funniest thing.
