Gday, not sure if this should be here or inthe watering hole, but seeing that its XC related i figured id start here. Mods , feel free to move it if needed.

I have heard that there are a couple of tracks in kenthurst one on porters road, and one on kranstons road. however chekcing the UBD wich has a lot of trails marked in it does nto seem to show aything really. does anyone know exactly where they are and more imporantly i guess if they are worth riding?

cheers.

Mate, I've riden Porters Rd. and driven Cranstons. Porters was quite a yawn (pretty average single track in a not particularly attractive area with copious amounts of flies) and Cranstons was fine.....in a 4WD.

I didn't like the area for MTB's, much more suited to motos IMO.

Where are you based? We may be able to point you to some other options.

im based in epping at the moment, but my parents live out at kenthurst, and my GF works there so its easy for me to get to. currently, i ride placs like davidson/cascades, ourimbah, arcadia XC track, yarramundi, manly dam. open to any more decent trails. dont like anything overly techy, but do quite enjoy nice flowing singletrack (doesnt everyone?)

Porters has some single track down the bottom going in many directions. Unfortunately I didn't find it either flowy or techy. It was just single track. Give it a try if you've nothing better though, you may disagree with my judgement. Take some aeroguard with you though!!!

Try Excelsior Reserve at Castle Hill (Eric Mobbs Reserve). There is a trail that goes all the way to North Rocks with a few variations and tracks running off it to explore. Its about 7-8km one way and its all singletrack. There are some technical bits, not overly, and the track does cross the creek back and forth a few times so you will have to carry your bike then.

Generally, its a good piece of track that I like very much.

No. Its at the end of Excelsior Ave. If your coming down Old Northern Rd from Dural you'll turn left into Excelsior Ave.

See the map for details.

Oh, and its a map I found on the net. Its not my work.

unfortunatley when i rode there it was wet and i was sick :( so i didnt have the greatest time and it was really slick. my mate has gone back in the dry and said it was much better. the ony annoying thing about it is the amount of overpasses that you ahve to go over that i cant ride over ( maybee you can if your that good??) but it disrupts things a bit

the place i hate is lake parramatta. ugh. never again. my mate interupted me at the wong time on a rocky section above the water when i lost the front and went down, only to watch the bike go bounce once, bounce twice and thankfully stop. 1/2 a meter more and it was a 20 ft drop for the bike into the dam!

I'm not a brilliant rider by any stretch of the imagination so there are some sections where I do get off and push the bike. But the rest makes up for it in my opinion. It is a little stop start with the creek crossings but there are lots of other tracks/sections that are smooth and flowy.

I'm not sure what you mean by "overpasses"???

And agree about Lake Parramatta. Hate it. Way too technical for me. Did it once and once only. You need to be a lot better rider than me to enjoy that place.

hey grumpy / hdtvkss. i'd be keen to hook up for an after work ride in that area if you have one going on. i hit some bits in northmead and para lake at lunch from time to time and would be keen to ride some other trails in the area.

Sounds like a plan to me. Myself and a guy from work ride one day during the week normally.

I'll sort something out and post in the Watering Hole. So keep an eye out. :)
