OK, chasing a few opinions on the zvino & crossmax rims its time for a upgrade on the cannondale & from what I can gather these wheel both have their pros & cons, both are about a similar price spec & both are lefty specific. Basically I need a set of wheels that are light weight, reasonably strong (not FR style but able to take a few knocks) & are off a reasonable price. Any opinions on these wheels would be greatly appriciated & could possibly lead to a coffee or two @ the upcoming dust till dawn MTB race

Get ZVINO, I know friends have them and thier great wheels slightly heavy but nice.

Crossmax are a pine in the arse.....

Crossmax XL's, I've been running mavics for years and have only had to true them once. I've got SL's on my cross country bike and XL's on the Ellsworth.
They are light and very strong, only drama is they cost a fair bit initially, but my SL's are 5 years old and going strong.
As far as I'm concerned the Crossmax XL is the best all mountain wheelset, and th SL's the best XC wheelset.

Has anyone else noticed that with the ZVINO's, if you round out or strip the thread on one single nipple...

you have to rebuild the entire wheel, as each nipple slips through an alloy (stainless??) insert then slots into the rim.

It's certinally an ingenious system in that you can have one rim and then change the setup to run (almost) any number of holes... and it's tubeless compatible and it does look cool...

But weight and the "strip one nipple and rebuild the whole damn thing" issue are a question...

Hey, do the Zvinos come as a lefty? When I inquired about them they only come as a standard wheel set, so wouldn't that mean a strip down of the front wheel to build it onto the lefty specific hub??? and good point Elvis, I'd not thought of that.
Anyway I ended up with a set of Mavic XM819 rims and built them onto some new hubs I had, they are sweeet the best upgrade you can do!!:D
I don't like the idea of specific spokes and the hubs on the crossmax's, a mate had dramas with spares for them, faily exxe and not all shops stock parts for them. In saying that there's a hell of alot of them out there so thats a statement in itself..
cheers pete

Have got the 819 already on the prophet but was hoping to go a little more light weight to create a more enduro style bike more so than the trail/free ride rig it is intended to be.
