I am choosing between an 06 Norco Manik, An 06 Norco Shore Three (By the way what is the price of a shore three?), and an 06 Specialized Big hit FSR I (again what is the price?)
I am going to be using the bike for mainly freeride, some dirt jumps and some DH as well. I am trying not to spend more than $3000. I also want to buy a new bikean not second-hand.
What are the prices and which do you think is the best bike for me?
Thanks peoples.

man id choose between the to dual suspension bikes becuase u can still jump then fine wheras if u had the manik u would be limited to doing downhill and freerdie as good as u could do on a fully. obviously ur a big norco fan so then u should probably got the a line but what i would suggest beforeu pull out ur wallet is have a test ride of both of the duals and see which feels better and which one you overall prefer.
I think the Norco shore is about $2500ish, bit more than the Manik.

go for the shore! it looks wicked and has a pretty good spec. the big hit is ok and probably more for the freeride/jumpy side of things. the norco would take it all over, so that is the one i think. but if you want to jump a little more go the big hit.

Defiantly go for the Malvern star Vision, Ive got one and i done it up wit Marzocchi 888's and ive taken it off 50 ft drops and it still hasnt snapd the frame! btw im getting a new bike soon, so i shall be selling my Malvern star for around $3,449.99
Im then going to buy a Malvern Star ranga, which only comes in the colour red and has 888's. I'll be taking it off 70 ft drops soon down at artarmon reserve

So you think that the Shore Three is the way to go then.
Do you know who stocks Shore Threes?
I know that most of the 06 Shore Hardtail range are out now but not all the duallys yet.
Also, would a Shore Three bo good for Downhill being a freeride bike?
What is the weight of a Shore Three?
Cheers.

Hey,
If you want to do DJ, DH and Freeride on one bike your going to have to compromise somewhere. It seems these are the 3 things that every person wants to do on thier new bike unfortunately the ideal bike setups for each of these is different so no one bike will do it all well. People DO use them for other uses but they wouldn't be ideal.
DH- Long Travel, stiff, strong, low BB and slack head angle. DH bikes are built to take impacts at speed better and more smoothly.
Our A-Line and Team DH are great for this type of stuff. DH bikes suck at riding on the flat or as a general trail ride because they have such a slack geo, are heavy, have big arse tyres that are hard to keep rolling without the aid of gravity and have limited gear ranges.
Freeride - Mid-Long travel, lighter, double ring compatible, steeper head angle and single crowns (generally). More versatile geometry for all around riding but with a gravity leaning. Check out the Shore and the Six bikes depending on how hard you want to go or how often you'll point it down a shuttle run.
A Freerider will be OK for DH but will usually be a bit light on for travel, a bit steep in the geo and maybe a bit high in the BB. The lack of chain guide on some bikes can be a pain. A freeride bike is also usually lighter so are often not a stiff in the rough or on on big sweeping turns. Long term a freeride bike will be less durable than a dedicated DH bike if it's used for DH.
DJ - Low frames, Short travel, Lighter weight, steep head angle and horizontal dropouts for wheelbase adjust or single speed options. Check out a small hardtail like a 125 or a 4x4 if you want a dually. DJ specific bikes are usually pretty limited in how well they take DH and Freeride use. I really think a cheap DJ hardtail is a better second bike rather than trying to jump a big DH bike or freeride rig. You can use your hardtail for park/urban/street and some bmx track and sprint training when your DH bike is too much bike.
06 Models.
Team DH - 3 weeks away roughly
A-Line - Instock
Atomik - Instock
Shore 1, 2, 3 - Instock
NSHT - Mostly in stock - Manik sold out (talk to your local stores about shop stocks).
2005 Models are on runout specials for all remaindered items, again talk to your shop.
Cheers,
Derek

Man dont even think of going for a manik, for the kinda riding you want it for the forks r too big and too heavy. They only provide a bit of travel. Go and look for the Malvern star ranga, they come equipt with malvern star forks that provide 240mm of travel, and tht means u will be able to pop it. Take it off 70 ft drops at artarmon reserve and ull b fine. great bike!!!

Are you serious? I'd suggest upgrading the forks on the Manik and definately get a chain device for it. Then your set :D

Thanks gibbo4, it was only a matter of time before "i hate emos" got banned. I have been searching the web for hours and never found this so-called "Ranga".
Anyway, thanks for suggesting some parts to upgrade, when I get my new Manik i'm thinking of putting a TruVativ Shiftguide onto it, depending on how many teeth are on the two chainrings.
What forks would you suggest? I like the idea of triples on a hardtail no matter what people say, plus i've seen some pretty crazy things done on a triple-clamped hardtail, so i'm reluctant to change. If I did change the forks then i would probably put a pair of Boxxer Races on it or something like that. What do you think?
I have attached a picture of the TruVativ Shiftguide.

I've never actually seen a double chain ring guide but it looks good. Truvativ are a reliable and cheap source to get chain devices/guides. I used to have just a cheap old Truvativ Mk2 box guide and although it was cheap it worked as well as my current MRP or Blackspire. And if you cant fit two chain rings in just put one on. Better having one chain ring chain device than none at all!

Yeh I think you may aswell keep triples on it. If you don't want to then maybe some 66's? Boxxer Races are a good idea - reliable, strong, good value, etc. In the end it comes down to personal preference and what you like the look and feel of. Maybe have a feel and a quick ride of a few difference kinds of forks and see what you like the best. Also see if there is a reasonable difference between the drop offs and boxxers.
If you do end up getting Boxxers then a good idea would be to get the oil refill hole drilled out to 3mm and put 30wt oil in the rebound and 10wt oil in the compression. Had this done to my 02 Boxxers recently and the difference is amazing! Good idea to get it done by your LBS or someone who knows what theyre doing tho. Don't want to go messing up your brand new internals. But remember that you can't go back to the original refill hole size ;)

manik if you are going to do dirt jumps alot along with downhill and freeride but if ur going to do dirt jumps not as much as downhill and free ride go for the bighit. I have a 04 bighit comp and i dirt jump on that its fine except you get tired easy

phew im not alone i thought he sounded abit dodgy:D
anyways if your planning on putting tripples on a hardtail then make sure your head angle isnt going to snap the shocks straight off when you hit something. yes as tim (gibbo4) said boxxer race forks are a great fork for the money.
this is a good example of what a hardtail looks like with tripples.

The Manik has tripples on it already so the frame shouldn't snap. Theres a guy who rides belair (Chris) who has an 04 Manik and he does 10ft drops and gaps and his bike is fine (well it looks fine from a distance :o ) He's kept the Drop offs on it. He's got a new Trek dually now tho so he uses the Manik for DJing now i thionk'

Hey dude go for a Norco Atomik this years 2006 model its same frame as DH team frame and components are better then the shore 3 is about $2500 or manick if you going to do more free ride or DH by the way the Atomik is about $2800. I've been shopping around and just got one for its specs plus looking at its value it great!!!!! by the way its a alternative towards specialized bike simliar componets but cheaper under 3Gs...
