checkout p6 for the lastest pics of the spit. New frame, new bits!

Got some new White Brothers forks to try out on my bike, White brothers were pretty big in the mid to late 90's and are now having a bit of a resurgence. These are The Fluid 120's which are set at 100mm and are a coil fork. They retail for $1450 and look trick! I havent ridden it enough for a full evaluation but so far they are on par with the Pikes i was running before, are significantly lighter and will hopefully get better with a bit more running in (manual says about 10 hours riding required)

Brake is a Quad Sting which is a 2 piston hydraulic brake and it has a VERy nice lever feel and good stopping power!

Frame: Fireeye Spitfire 15'' white with built in chain tugs and slotted disc mounts.
Fork: White Brothers Fluid 120, gas charged oil damping with adjustable compression, rebound and preload. 32mm legs and weigh about 400g less than a set of pikes at 2147g.
Cranks: holzfeller.
Wheels: A2Z 20mm front, 10mm bolt up rear. Dirtbag fr rims (soon to be changed to fireeye 920 front hub and 10mm single speed rear hub) Sapim spoke n nipples
Tyres: Maxxis Holy rollers 2.4
Brakes: Quad Sting, a new brake that i'm trying out. so far so good!
Rotors: A2Z SPIII 180mm rotors f n r ( lightest stainless rotors you can get and the funkiest shape out there) using A2Z adapters.
Pedals: Fireeye Grills, ano orange. sealed bearing, heaps of spare pins
Chain: Wipperman
Seatpost: Fireeye alloy one peice
Saddle: Fireeye MR Fire
Headset:Fireeye iris XL ano orange of course!
Stem:Fireeye Talon, ano orange.
Bars: Fireeye 254's with flames!
Endcaps: more orange ano.

Here's the geometry for those that wanted to know-
with the forks set at 100mm it has a 69deg head angle and a 12.8'' bb height. With the forks set at 120mm it has a 67.5deg head angle and a 13'' bb height. The chainstays are currently set at 16'', but can go as short as 15.5'' if i ditch the bilt in chain tugs and use a bolt up hub.

Most of the stuff like pedals and stems and whatnot I hadn't even seen in the flesh before they arrived at my door, so I was happy as with the finish and the quality of the goodies. Just how good is orange ano! TOPS i reckon. I also have a adobe catalogue with all the parts and retail prices in it but its 3mb so if i get enough of you to pm me with your email addresses i will send it out to you all in one hit!(boo to dial up!!)

second that, very nice bike mate. How's it ride?

beno
03-02-2006, 10:04 AM
weighs in around 13/14kg, i dont have any accurate scales around at the moment that read over 6kg, but when i do get some i'll post its weight up. Its a bit heavier than our demo bike-the Fireeye Firesky (which is STILL at Clict mag- come on give it back ya buggers) cause the frame has been strengthened in a couple spots (beefier headtube n downtube),as well as the addition of the ASP chain tensioning system and some heavier components. This frame retails for $550, and the Firesky is still available in Vertical dropouts only for $499.

The pedals aren't lite! infact most of they parts are heavier than the norm, so they should prove to be pretty durable. They are some of the coolest pedals about at the mo though, but I only brought in 2 pairs of these in orange(got silver and black as well), cause I wasn't sure what they would look like in the metal. So if want a pair in orange youll have to be patient or ring Jindabyne Bike n Skate, as they were the first shop to see em the day they came in (Iwas on the way to the Nationals!) and they snapped the other pair up! Or you could go for the Ignition pedal, which comes in orange too.

still havent ridden it properly, hopefully on the weekend!

cheers for the comments, much appreciated!

rotors are about $100 each and are the lightest stainless steel rotors you can get! I put them on cause they are cool and bring a new dimension to buzzing someones tyre! They are 7'' front and rear using A2Z adapters.

As for $$$ dont really know, alot of the parts are new, but some of them I had lying around-cranks-forks-wheels-brakes.

finally got the Fireeye Excellerant Hubs built up into some wheels. single spped rear hub and a 9mm/20mm front looks sweet as! For some reason though farkin isnt letting me upload pics today, so maybe another day. The review of the fireeye in the next issue of Clict is FINALLY out! Did alright i think, except for the brakes not working and having a fox fork! Oh well, live and learn I reckon.

Well it says in this thread that it weighs 13-14kg.

Nice job, good demo bike. Needs orange Hadleys though :D

beno
03-04-2006, 09:24 AM
11 KILO'S , holy crap. thats a stupidly heavy frame! Most DH frames are around 5-6kg so 11 is just ridiculous! The Fireeye frame weighs in around 3kg, depending on size and model.

Oh yeah, love the Pikes and they are pretty damn stiff. Best fork rockshox has made in ages!

beno

Finally got my computer to upload the hub pics! Goodbye Explorer and Outlook, hello Firefox and Thunderbird! Bloody computers!

The front hub can be a 9mm thick QR axle which will fit into all QR forks or a 20mm as used here. The rear hub is a single speed with a 10mm bolt up axle. They also do a 10mm thick axled 9spd rear hub!

Last picture is a close up of the handle bars cause I just love em!!

beno
07-04-2006, 08:22 AM
I think your right there. $200 for the front and $250 for the rear individually, though when you buy a frame you can get a package deal with other fireeye stuff with up to 15% off depending on what you get.

Sweet Beno. i have never seen those forks before how do they handle?
What is your rear brake and does it work well??
Thanks,

beno
06-06-2006, 08:43 AM
So far the forks are pretty mad, right up there with Pikes, which i reckon are currently the best forks on the market, i need some more time on the bike to properly break them in and see how they really perform, but so far they are ace! The rotor is on there from pure laziness, cant be arsed taking it off!

you can find more info on the forks at www.whitebrotherscycling.com . Cycle Solutions is the new Ozzy distributor for them!

The brake is from a company called quad, and i have a few sets that myself and mungus are trying out. So far they rock! Just a simple 2 piston caliper that uses the same pads as shimano deore hydraulic brakes and has a real nice lever.

Got bored with the white after more than a year of ownership, plus with mungus on the new Shortfuse 380 (380mm stays)(he will be posting it up soon) I was itching for a change of colour and something a bit different from everyone else.

I chose to stay with the spitfire, but a black one this time. I customised it with some stickers I had lying around to make it unique and added some new parts that came in a the start of the year.

Those parts are a full stainless bearing and cage sealed headset mmmmmm sssmmmoooothhh, up there with king in quality but not price! 9 butted! Yes 9 butted cromoly handlebars that weigh 50g more than their alloy brothers and a new bmx style mtb stem with negative rise! Also put on a half link and machined down the chain tugs to bring the back wheel in as short as it will go on this frame.

First off heres what a std black spitfire looks like

In a month or so i will have some white cromo ISIS cranks to go on it and then V3 of my spitfire will be complete! So if your interested in a very good condition white spitfire frame or ano orange stuff talon stem, grill pedals and sealed bearing headset, sling me a pm.

Nah mate the reason I put them on is so that it is different to the normal spitfire, it all started when Mungus got his new team frame which is a one of a kind colour and the only one of a handful in the world. Wait til you see it its mad! I had real trouble handing it over to him.

Oh yeah the handlebars go for $99 and come in white or black 50, 75 and 85mm rises and the stems are $69.

Is there alloy bars in those colours too beno? 31.8?

Any pricing info on the wb forks?

beno
18-02-2007, 01:11 PM
Hey 5jive!
at this stage no, alloy bars are only black, but im sure that it will probably happen if it isnt already. I'll let you know when i get back from the Taipei Show at the end of march!

As for the forks, what would you like to know? the are Fluid 120's and can be changed internally to either 100 or 120mm, are coil with adjustable rebound and compression (though you can order air versions 2, same price) are 2147g well thats how much mine weigh, not ''catalogue'' weights!

They are a different fork to most coil forks, they feel more like an older style air fork, if you know what i mean, not that brilliant for small bump sensitivity but once they are moving in their travel their tops. For a fork on a street/DJ bike though that works out very well, stiff and take the hits well without diving or wallowing in their travel/ They retail for $1450.

Added some new rims today and a new bashy. The rims are just temporary though, they are going on my Griffin Dually when it gets here. I think I like this bike better with the black rims anyway. Bloody hell it must have fireeye written on it 50 times, might be time to peel some stickers off!

I also changed the gearing from 36/18 to 32/16 which also allowed me to take 3 more links out of the chain.

Few more changes to the bike. Got the X Drive cromoly monocoque cranks on there now, they use a FSA BB, also got the ISIS versions in stock, but not many! Sick of the white wheels, doesnt look right to me, Im definiately going back to good old black REAL soon! Plus these wheels will be going on the Grif shortly.

New saddle too called a backfire, bit more subtle, going with that i took the downtube stickers off too so now the bike only has FIREEYE written on it 38 times (im not kidding!!!)

When I go back to the black wheels I think I will paint the spider on the cranks white to bring it all together, from there the only thing I will change in the future is to a set of new forks.
