hey guys,

hope this is the right place for this thread.

anyway straight to it i plan on getting my first good bike and it will be either a norco sasquatch or manik (06 Models). id like to know basically is the manik worth the extra 300 or so over the sasquatch? i did a few trails and just getting from a-b via road. i really want too start getting into more frequent trail and harder rides (like every weekend). ive narrowed it down too these 2 bikes simply because i like em the most and i figure that i go to bmx tracks everynow and then and they should be fine (more than fine if compared to my current bike). i looked at the stp series but that didnt seem to match up to what i wanted to do so the norco shore hardtails looked best.

if there any other bikes people can suggest please do so but provide some reasons please (around the ~1600 mark)

so again, is the manik worth the extra cash over the sasquatch. cheers for any responses.

Welcome to farkin.net ;)

I would go the Manik because of better rims and 20mm forks. Theyre not really worth 300 more, but to upgrade to the equivalent from the Sasquatch would probably cost around $400-$500

If your just getting into more extreme riding now they'll both do you good, and the dilemma is whether you think it really matters having the upgrades from the sasquatch for 300. I'de say if you dont mind forking out the extra 300 go for it, i know that you wont be dissapointed in buying a norco shore hardtail thats for sure, good luck

Id go the Manic over the Sasquatch. Basically you get what you pay for in the MTB industry. Just a few bits and pieces are nicer. If your in Melbourne/Vic, your welcome to come and test ride both at Brunswick Street Cycles.

hey amn,
I'm getting an 06 Norco Manik as well, Norco Hardtail Pride:) :)
Anyway just so you know they go for 1700 but you should be able to talk it down to about 1500 or maybe less. One thing you might want to know is that all of the first shipments of maniks to each store have tripples, whereas every other one doesn't.
Unfortunately the one I'm receiving only has singles which are drop off 4's with only 150mm travel, It stinks, It stinks, It stinks.
But I can't just go somewhere else as I have laybyed it and can't pull out at this late a stage as i would lose a shitload of cash over it.
Any way I hope you get whatever one you want, be it tripples or single crown.
I live in Sydney as well, when you get your bike maybe we can go for a ride sometime.
Cheeers.

yeh i seen you post that, if im able to get it down to say 1500 - 1600 it would be awesome. i have a feeling that the first shipment has sold out as most of the shops ive been too dont have any instock meaning they would have to get them in so i guess then they would come with 4s. ill be buying one hopefully with in a week or 2 (be it buy one or order) so yeh.

just out of interest if buying the forks seperately how much more would tripples be over 4's?

Like everyone has already stated, get the manik. If you really want to get the manik with the triple clamp forks over the drop off 4 fork (and as you live in sydney) go to kuringai cycles at hornsby as they still have the manik's with triples' in stock

i disagree. Triple clamps on hardtails arent cool. GO the sasquatch, the parts on the manik are not much better plus the saquatch comes with single crowns which is a definite plus cos the triples that come on the manik are like have real funny rebound. Plus its easier to jump and just ride around with single crowns....

do you think you will end up puttng more money in to this bike and changing parts after buying it?

because if you going to be changeing the parts that make the manik that little bit better over the sassie there maybe no real point in paying the extra

and the dual crowns are not that much better then the single crowns

saw the tripples on the manik today. it felt good. i think im going to get the manik with tripples as i prefered it. the difference in weight wasnt as much as i expected and really dont think there was to much difference.

and just the little things i think make up for the extra $$ being the larger wheels, 20mm axel (i think thats what there called) and the better cranks i think. (plus the colour on the manik is sexy).

the tripples really felt good with the extra height.

i think the manik will suit me best because i dont need to change anything whereas the sasquatch id probably end up changing some things within 6 months or so, so the extra 200 ish is worth it imo.

are we talking about the 2006 model sasquatch's and manik's or the 05 ones. Im quiet sure they both come with husselfelt cranks so the manik's arent better cranks than th sassy's they are both the same.

The 06 Sassies and Maniks my good man.
The Manik comes with Hussefelt cranks whereas the Sasquatch comes with Truvativ Ruktion cranks.
But yet none come with a chainguide, Far out i'm pissssed!

hey guys, having some trouble deciding, based on many peoples opinions the dual crowns are a let down on hardtails and are basically crap to put it. would this mean that i probably should go with the sasquatch as its almost the same but has drop off 4's?. people have also been saying that a stp zero would be a better choice but i got the impression from people on here that stp's arent too good for trails/downhill type stuff. really starting to get confused and annoyed at myself over the choice.

can somebody please back me up with anything i just need help.

if anyone can give some ideas please do (about dual crowns on hardtails (the tripples) mainly) and the bikes.

major confusion here.

Dual crowns on a hardtail aren't crap, and no-one can say that, no-one.
It all comes down to wether or not:
a) the frame is built strong enough in the headtube area to take tripples
b) your riding style requires tripples
c) tripples would stuff up the geo of the bike or not
d) you're willing to give up the ability to do bar spins as with single crowns

If all of them are yes then it's just down to personal preference, either you like them on a hardtail, or you don't, simple. Everyone has opinions about what they think looks cool, and if it matches up against how well the forks perfom, then they're cool.

To answer your question spleen, even though i'm getting a manik, i'd still say go for a manik. It's a better bike with better rims and cranks. Whether or not you get tripples or not is completly down to you. I suggest you refer to the points I typed above and then if everything matches up, go for it. Personally, I don't really care about tripples.........Yet.
As I have a very lightweight build i don't really need the extra 20mm that the tripples supply, 150 is fine for me, so unless you weigh a tonne, you can get away with just the 150. I hope you get what ever bike you choose(Manik Manik Manik:D ) hehe, and Make sure that you act fast as Maniks with tripples are disappearing from stores at a fast rate, so act fast(i just said that but said it again to prove a point).:)
