This is an orchid, Encyclia radiata, I have growing and that has just flowered. It's perfume is so strong it fills the entire house. Not unpleasant but it can become over-powering.

No, orchids in general. Most get severe hayfever symptomes (swollen eyes that are so itchy they're almost impossible to open, nose burning/running profusely, uncontrolable sneezing to the point that it gets hard to take a breath etc.). I'd also assume that it may affect asthma sufferers too as these types of afflictions tend to hold hands.
I actually get severe heyfever myself, but orchids are fine for me. Sneezing and itchy eyes etc. may not sound too bad, but it can be to the point it can be dangerous for the sufferer.

This orchid has a scent similar to the Sydney Rock Orchid but is far, far more intense. I reckon any sufferer of hayfever would want this orchid burnt as the perfume, the pollen it produces and the fact that the flowers can last up a month would make this a nightmare.
I will be sure to put this outside in advance when hayfever sufferers I know drop over. ;)
my dads growing some of these at the moment. there sabi stars
