Here's my car,

It's great for long trips to Thredbo and Canberra and gets three bikes around without any dramas. It's a 99 model Mitsubishi Verada. Just a car, a means of getting bikes around.

This not my car but it exactly the same: 1989 Toyota Corolla SR5 4wd wagon. With a bike rack it holds 2 bikes, double pram, 2 babies + all their peripherals, my girlfriend & myself! It is really sluggish in 2nd gear, needs new tyres & has dones 320,000 clicks. It also needs to get through rego about a week after we come back from NZ & christ knows how I am going to afford that!

;)

I don't have a complete picture of my care, but it's a stock-standard '94 Holden Rodeo LS (Spacecab). Great for getting the bikes and all my riding gear around.

I have some mates who are in to "autosalon" magazine and they thought they'd play a bit of a prank on my and decal my rear window. With ute blood flowing through my veins and a little bit of ingenuity, here's what I came up with:

Yeah, shiteloads of 'em. I'm a Ford man but not a one eyed one.
Every time I buy a car I test what's about and the ford seems to suit my needs.
EG: When I bought the Terry I tested Klugers, Adventras, Santa Fe's and a few others, the big green fella came up trumps. (actualy it smacked 'em outta the park).

I'm working on the boss lady to maybe flog the ute and get a Bimmer 130........mmmmmm, 195kw, rear drive, bugger all mass, drooooooooool....

Unreal job on the sticker, looks slick.

Damn cameras broken, but my ride is a '89 Hiace long wheelbase van. Mods include Ford rims and hubcaps:p , Missing Resonator and slightly larger exhaust, CD player and 6" front, 6x9" rear speakers. Holds 10 dh bikes and 10 people easily for shuttles. would probly be able to squeeze 15 bikes and people for shuttles or mabey 20 bikes in the back plus doubles as a bedroom if i go out drinkin.

I'm an eh holden nut.

Tan coloured one is fairly stock just a few engine mods to give it a bit more puff

blue/purple pearl (will be repainted a nicer colour as I think it ruins the classic look, especially without the white roof)... well 3/4 chasis, rack an peanut steering, 3 litre turbo motor... well i'll stop there unless someone wants to konw more as the modification list is a mighty big one.

Got some pictures of my ride, picked her up on Monday, Im still too scared to put my foot down all the way, she goes HARD to say the least. (Well compared to anything else ive ever driven anyway)

Its a 1993 Toyota Supra, NA cause P platers cant drive turbo :( pretty much stock excpet for the 20" Hp designs rims (these were brand new on the car when we got it) We also got a spare set of 2 piece Work rims, to use on the track which was awesome :) 3" catback exhaust, k&n air filter in the stock airbox, the front strut brace and some new shocks because the old ones were worn out and the previous owner didnt drive it on the track enough to justify getting coilovers. Oh and cant forget the carbon fibre bonnet. :)
Putting down 147 KW at the rear wheels, which for a NA with these very very basic mods is a hell of a lot, coming close to a stock twin turbo supra actually... and Its P plate legal :)
Stock bodykit and sound system, which for a supra is rare :D Will be leaving the body as it is, until in the distant future when im on my full licence i upgrade to a big single turbo setup, and need something to mount the intercooler in :) not going for rice with this thing at all... Will have to get a new stereo though, I cant listen to the stock one its so woeful it makes baby jesus cry, Probably just going to go for a jaycar precision setup, very cheap and sound awesome, for the money you spend of course
, but im not going to be driving around with DOOF DOOF DOOF heard for kms so it will do me fine :)

Oh yea, the bikes factor... they dont fit... period. But that doesnt worry me as I cant ride anymore anyway :( So that wasnt a factor when buying a car. pics are below, as you can see from the engine bay shot shes pretty stock, but for its age the car is in insanely good condition, the old owner was very very thorough, has receipts for everything and i mean everything, from spark plugs, to rims, timing belt, to once getting a flat tire repaired :p anyone who cries when they have to say goodbye to their old car has to have had something there for it, i promised her she will see it again and its going to a good home :)

first time ive driven a manual, and teaching myself is fun, still not to smooth starting off (either jump around a lot, stall or spin the wheels, i think im letting the clutch out a bit too fast still) but im getting there, accidently spun the back wheels in 4th yesterday :O definatly cant do that with an auto.

edit: We put it on a car trailer to get it home, stopped at maccas to get some food on the way, a girl from school saw it on the trailer, and now everyone at my old school knows i bought a supra, crashed it at maccas and had to get it towed away, gotta love teenagers :)

You're still a booner Dave. Fully sick supra bro...

This is my bad boy. The SS Disco, produces a whopping 83 kilowatts and can hit 100km/h after a half hour negociation. The beast tops out at 140km/h and does not like any form of uphill. Despite this handles like a Boat (hence the SS name) and the brakes don't work in the wet properly. It is just as perfect for running aground on the tree stumps at Lithgow as it is for being booked on long haul trips.

http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/2568/imgp25222ja.jpg

http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/7015/imgp25209ja.jpg

Sadly the SS will not be among us for much longer- it is going to be replaced by a 98 Defender 110, running the same engine but with much better aerodynamics (i'm not lying, bricks go quickly).

Makes my mazda look kinda lame with only 149kw.. then again, the mazda is at all 4 wheels, and only has about half the capacity :)

Nice looking cars, love the shape of those supra's, and the Turbo versions of those motors are damn strong. Good luck with it, and please dont crash it :)

PS. Get rid of the wing :P They look so much smoother with no rear spoiler.

lotec
08-02-2006, 10:26 AM
thanks dave, i love you too, as for the wing im thinking about it, as many have said that wing belongs on a hyundai excel :p ill be doing my best to crash it, im not an idiot, if i want to race it ill take it to the track, i have enough respect for other people to not put their life on the line if i lose control, seen 2 supras wrapped around trees in the last month and that scares me (one of them was pushing over 700 RWHP, it was unrecognisable, both people died on impact and the bodies had to be cut out, there was blood sprayed across the guages ) only thing that worries me is if i pull the wing off it wont look like a hundai excel anymore, it will look like a turtle :D

It originated from the Japanese (Honda) tuning company Mugen - pretty much their signature. I guess they were carbon fibre - and if they had carbon fibre they wanted people to know about it, so did not paint it.;)

lotec
08-02-2006, 11:02 AM
its not black its actually made of real carbon fibre meaning its a fair bit lighter than the stock NA bonnet (tt bonnets lighter and would probably come close to carbon fibre but the NA bonnet did weigh a fair bit) plus the old owner just wanted something a bit different, It would have looked better on a white or a quicksilver (drool) supra but i think it looks nice :)

I'll buy the wing, does it bolt on or do i need zip ties? nah mate, I would have thought you of all people would have known that gaffa tape is the only method of fastening suitable for this type of application

well there's a few too many shiny new looking cars starting to appear in this thread, so i thought it was time to put another one down for the old school cars.

It's a '73 LJ Torana, starting to get a bit rough around the edges, but still goes well, and loves to be pointed up a hill.

There's also a '63 EJ Holden Premier sitting down in our garage that i'm keen to do up a couple of years down the track when i get a bit of cash in my pocket.

You just cant beat the old school cars, i'd prefer to have one in my garage to a new car anyday. Although ... i would be open to the possibility of having both old and new in my garage :D

it strikes out for all 3 unforunately ... it's 4 door, with a 173, and a 3 speed auto.

I'd love to get one with a manual someday, and then possibly put a 5speed celica or supra gearbox in, and then i reckon they would really go. I could even convert this one down the track at somepoint i suppose, but seeing as it's column shift it would entail a fair bit of work and money, and seeing as i'm a poor uni student at the moment and bikes already do a good job of sucking up all my money, it might have to wait a while.

Can't remember wether i've posted it before or not.. but here's mine. VT1 Exec Wagon. Goes alright and has (just) enough power to pull a Malibu. I keep an air mattress and a 12Volt pump in the back, I've slept in it many times and its really comfortable. Its on about 240k kms and has cost me a bit but I love it. Next car would either be the same (or the v8 version) or a suby liberty wagon.

Ok... The company car.
I don't use these wheels for cruising around as they won't go over 60kays (and a host of stuff that makes them illegal on the bitumen). Heaps faster on the dirt though.

The white one is my precious , tons of tlc , and small upgrades in time . think ill keep posting the work i do onit .

Ahh nice. I've got a '88 HR31 Skyline coupe, RB20DET, 5 speed, LSD, HICAS 4 wheel steer, climate control, electric front spoiler, electronic suspension adjustment blah blah... all the 80's techno crap Nissan put in - bloody thing has 3 computers - one for the motor, one for the suspension, one for the 4 wheel steer.
I'll get pics when I finish putting the motor back in it, looks a bit funny with the front end up in the air since I dropped the engine and box out of it.
It dropped one cylinder so I have a fresh low km RB20 to go in.

It's attached to the rear of the car there as we wern't making it too far into some of the bogholes that day... they were pretty deep...

my guess is its like the electric front spoiler on the supra, it automatically goes down at 70 km/h, just to ad a bit of stability, but retracts at lower speeds to stop it getting damaged on speedhumps etc, and you can manually override it... that elise GTR is SEX, always wondered what an elise with a supra engine in it would go like, id imagine it would be fairly similar to that :)

Yeah, you can set it up or down, or auto, and it lowers at I think 70kmh, mine has a dash mounted controller but some are auto only. I'm not sure whether they designed it to add downforce, or simply to direct more air into the radiator and intercooler apertures. Lotec pretty much had it.
May as well explain the other stuff too...
Suspension has 3 settings, soft medium and hard, each strut has a motor unit to adjust them, it can also select different settings by road speed and so forth as far as I can tell. HICAS computer constantly calculates an angle to flex the entire rear end cradle (up to a couple of degrees) with two hydraulic rams for an element of rear steer, using steering angle and road speed mainly to decide what to do. Apparently helps wet weather traction and overtaking stability. It even has a little air purifier box on the parcel shelf controlled from the front, haha.

Other HR31 skylines, mainly the 4 door hardtop japanese model (pillarless 4 door - not the same as the aussie version) have all of the above plus options like air pump up lumbar support, cassette tape stacker and proximity card entry (!).
I find all the gadgets quite interesting for an 18 year old car, haha.

lotec

Anyway this was my pride and joy before having to start my business, and get real with money :(

Just before I sold her, she put out 330rwhp and ran 12.9 on crappy street radials.
I cant stress how great a car these are, even if they get a bad name from their stereo typical drivers.
I did every modification to the car myself and have never touched a car in my life. thats how simple they are to work on!

Any decent importer should have plenty of silvertop RB20DETs ,shop around and you should get inside about $1500 for motor/box/computer.
Don't buy a HR31 redtop RB20DET, motors are fine but the turbo/ecu/intake etc are garbage.

seconds the 73 hq that is never gona leave the driveway, and hasnt even been started in over 3 years, partly my fault for being restricted to not having a manual licence, and being banned from having one until further notice from my doc. peica crap, electrics are a mess, but il fix that on my time off. would be good if i hda the motivation to fix it.
(been sayin this for 2 years now:o )

ohhh an my daddys project a 82 gs650 shaft drive kat, prety damn mad, tured classic late last year. thats an 81 but close enough, differnences in cam shat profiles etc etc taken outa producton in 84. The Kat has a peakier power curve and is several kilowatts up in overall engine performance, the down side to this is that it gets a little bogged down in the lower rev range. stil sweet tho.

Wow, thats pretty awesome. 280rwkw in a KE30.... I guess you're not worried too much about handling balance, but how is it with the 1G in front? Obviously its way bigger than a K motor, but it doesn't look much different to a 2T-G or similar, and they seem ok with one of those in. I've been in a 235rwkw VL turbo and that was scary enough, can't imagine how frightening that thing would be, haha. What's the power delivery like?

A mate of mine has a really nice KE55 coupe, its not as extreme as yours of course! for starters i like that supra dave that is shmick and there the wheels i just orderd for my ute accept in chrome.
any way ive got a 01 AU2 XR6 ute just with a tickford vct six pack with pacemaker extractors into a 2.5'' exhaust with duel tips, its also sporting pedders suspension with re-set rear leafs soon to be sporting blocks lol due to 20'' hp design rims oh and it has a KnN pod filter which floats my boat.

Also recently given to me by my dad was a 68 Mustang which is my pride and joy. under the bonnet it has a highly worked 351 clevo with custom extractors to fit it into the bay as any mustang buff knows they only came with a 302 windsor in them and thats a tight fit as it is, it is producing enough horse power to twist the chassis, it has FR17's on it being an ever so sweet 3 peice rim in my opinion holdin the wheels on are koni adjustibles. inside it has a full stratus interior with woodgrain steering wheel. blasting out the tunes is a kenwood head unit with 2 12'' subs situated in the boot with two amps in between them. sorry the mustang pic has us goof balls standing infront of it ready for our formal but its the only pic i have on this new computer.

No 460 didn't come out till 1970 i think (same block as 429 - 385 series). 351windsor in 69 and clevland (335 series, have a lot of design similaritys with 385 sereis including canted vavle heads) in 1970.
The 352,390,410,427,428 (FE sereis) are all the same engine with different bore and stroke. 427s in 67 with and a shorter stroke than the 428 but a larger bore.
the 428 was more driveable and therefore got the nod over the '27 for 68.

Am pretty happy with it, very nice to drive compared to my older Mazda, air con, cruise, better brakes + air bags = safer, handles very nicely for a stock car. Never owning an older car again

My old Mazda is still faster in a straight line, and around corners too. Has 150kw at all 4 wheels in a car that weights around 1100kg. Motor was built at croydon, GT2860RS turbo, MTX8 ECU, ignition + fueling mods, strut bars + sway bars, etc :)

it would have to be on bags (possibly hydrolics) - otherwise its not a minitruck. So would raise it for driving over stuff like that.

Has he welded lugs onto the chasis so he can dump it while driving and throw sparks?

Its quite possible, we had a couple of R31 skylines do ~115rwkw with mildly tweaked 17 year old SOHC nissan RB30E motors..
So given the head start on age and much better flowing DOHC top end, on a highish reading dyno its pretty plausible, especially with 169kw at the flywheel stock for the 2JZ-GE supra motor.

The spinning in 4th thing is a bit much for me though, but each to their own...I fully agree an inexperienced driver could chirp 4th, but as for full on wheelspin...nah, not until you've got another 100-110kw at the tyres, and even then it has to be on purpose.

rb30e puts out 115 kws at the rear wheel stock.. , my bro's does a lil over 150 , with pacemaker extractors , k & n ' air filter kit so its quite possible a stock supra does 147 , but i do have my doubts bout wheels spinning in fourth

yea about the inexperienced driver thing, its teh first manual ive driven and i was teaching myself with advice from others "oh use the accelerator and clutch like a seesaw" so letting the clutch out im already accelerating a fair bit and the clutch in the supras been rebuilt higher pressure etc, so it bites hard, and when i let it out fast and accelerate fast you can easily get the tires chirping in 4th, i learnt very quickly that this is not how you should drive a car like this though, gotta be a lot smoother and more gentle, havent done it since, its done 117 000 kms to that guy who asked

An unbelievably optimistic dyno for 115kw stock out of an RB30E! 150 with those mods...can't see it.
Your bro's car shouldn't make more than about 105 with those mods, most stock RB30E's make 85-95kw , dependent more on kms than anything else.
To do 115 an RB30E will normally need a fairly big exhaust, mild cam, bigger throttle body and head cleanup in addition to the mods above. 150 would need more compression, very aggressive cam and probably aftermarket management.

im only goin on what i briefly heard , yes there is aftermarket stuff , like components from a vl , its only done 92 000 owned by n old man before he bought it , throttle body has been replaced due to surges and too much footplantin

For all those having a go at Lotec, I can spin the tyres in a 10 year old Hilux ute, in 4th friggen gear. I am abusing the SHIT out of it, but it'll do it.

Yup, just saw an XR6/8/turbo ute that had plowed straight into a tree in a medium strip on a relatively straight road. Must have hit reasonable hard as the tree was about 40cm away from the firewall or so. Pretty nasty crash. Was about 5 cop cars, an ambulance and a fire truck there.
Hope the driver/occupants are ok.

Another car, the rear hatch pulled up a big screen TV, and loads of speakers.

Monkeynuts has a 97 VW Golf Vr6.

Has poly bushes, coilovers, strut brace, brembo x-drilled discs, hawk HP+ pads, zorst and Giac chippy. Also have spare set of wheels with semi slicks for track time.

Looks stock apart from a small drop in height.

Can scare a few HSV drivers on twisty roads.:D

Yeah go the VW Golf

Had to post this...My mate's 87 KC Laser with a 2.5 V6 KLZE J-Spec engine(The Ford telstar/Mazda 626 have a de-tuned version of this engine).

Does a 13.8sec 1.4 qrt mile. Fully road legal.

I have a j-spec mx-6 with the same powerplant... he's doing something different if he's getting 13.8's... the j-spec 626's/ MX6's/ Telstars are all doing low 16's on paper.

NICE my Dads got a XT GT and he reckons your car is mad...

Your dad is a man of fine choice.
Seriously though I thought if I am going to waste money on a shitbox (anycar in my opinion) I may as well get one that is going up in value. I prefer Open wheel racecars.

That laser is a fair bit lighter then a 626/MZ6/ Telstars. It has some basic mods... I beleive the 13.8 was recorded by the old owner. Thats a 14.4 from his mate i assume.

Such a nice clean car, your mate got it for a good price right? The old owner was the only person who had owned it and had done a few engine conversions

Sweet must make for fun driving big cubes and decent sized PD blower.
How does it go around corners?

I would imagine it would be sideways with a fair bit of smoke coming of the tyres?

Taken it down the quater? what sort of times does it pull?

Yup...thats it...I don't know how much he got it for but he went all the way over to South Australia just to get it and bring it back here to WA. It's in pieces at the moment because it decided to spew out gear box fuild all over the place a few weeks ago at a recent dyno run. He is actually looking for any expressions of interest for about $12-13k at the moment...once he has fully fixed it that is.

Thanks dude. No ass kissing. Just a lot of hard work. I'm proud to say my parents didn't pay 1 cent... Nor will they. Pretty much the same with all my toys.

And yeh, I love the black! Really nice in person too. The colour for the whole car will all be black, grill, plates, wheels, tray carpet, seat covers etc.

Oh and I'm getting a rocket...... NOT!!

MkIV Golf R32, mild work done on it, including GIAC reflash, Exhaust ported, CAI and KW Variant 3 Coilovers. Could easily handle another 50 bhp, but too expensive to get gains on an NA car.
