Heres my XC/Trail/Commuter jobbie:
06 Kona Unit, fairly modded:
- 06 Fox Vanilla RLCs
- White Industries ENO Freewheel (36pt version)
- Avid Juicy 5s with non-annoying rotors.
- SDG Belair RL
- Blackspire front ring
- Rad BMX Chain.
- DMR V12s
Rides very nice. 42t : 18t gives me a ratio of 2.33 : 1. Good all round use for mainly commuting and stuffs. Climbs alright. Yes, I know the forks are too much travel, I'll be lowering them to 100mm in a few days/when I can be bothered. Pretty pleased with it though, won't change much, maybe some 180mm XT cranks eventually and some slick tyres for when I'm on the road more.
:) Lookin' gooood.
3 pics are the newest ones.
Forks are now @ 100mm travel, new Maxxis Crossmark tyres, very nice.
Ah yes, --- 11.91kg.

What do you mean man? Commuting is the next big thing....
People like Scotty here are what we call 'Extreme Commuters', They usually pop wheelies around the usual day to day road rides and do endo's at traffic lights, therefore needing DJ spec's.:p
If you are a true commuter, May i ask you...Where are your:
12 Reflectors.
Air and Aerosole horn.
3 Waterbottles.
80mm semi rigid forks.
Reflective vest
Night lights
Sunglasses with yellow lenses.???
You're no true commuter!
Nice rig thought scotty, Looks like a nicly spec'd bicycle, Definantly good for those sunday commutes in the park.

only a true jedi-commuter are given such weapons!! in time, with much training and practice... bla bla bullshit bullshit...
scott!! noice!! drop the fork travel, young padiwan, as the unit has quite a slack head angle already!!
At the end of the day, that bike actually isnt too bad. Would actually be better with a nice paintjob, lowered forks and more bling shit, actually.

needs a Surly Instigator fork instead. Steel provides plenty of suspension for the city.
Unless you do actually hit the trails on it as well...
a suggestion - run your lever clamps with 20-25mm between them and the ends of the grips, and just use your index finger to brake.
Dial them in a bit closer to the bars too. You'll be surprised at how much more control you have.
Other than that, two thumbs up. Nice rig mate.

Meh, two thumbs up. Nice rig mate.
My wrists don't like rigid. Nah, I take it off road as well, been on a few trails already. Could probably compromise the ratio a bit to make it easier but meh, my knees love it.

Nice communter!
Can you give a review of the crossmark tyres?
Cheers
scottmeister

The crossmarks are very fast rolling, wayyy better than a lasern TT on the road. They corner pretty well on and off road, but dont really like wet gravel/dirt. Really awesome and light tyre, but I wouldn't be running it if I was doing more off road riding. 75% of my riding is on road on this bike. But, overall I really like these tyres, pretty good do it all tyre for summer XC and road riding.

Reminds me of mine! I guess mine is "old skool" now though... an ageing 05 model complete with Vanilla's, BB7's and 180mm XT Hollowtech 2 cranks.
That has to be your next mod, get rid of those cranks and crap SRX bottom bracket and get some 180 XT's on there. Then we can be Unit buddies!
Actually, scratch that, I don't want to be seen in public with you that often...
