yeh, went to see it tonight.

was a fantastic movie. not for the feinthearted tho. its not violent, but the concepts are, and there is a very high level of realism. one of the better hollywood outputs in recent time.

i definately give it 5/5 in terms of production value.
id have to say its a cross between three kinds (in terms of shooting style) and full metal jacket (in terms of story line). for a mockumentry, it was very well done. its based on the lead characters (anthony something) book.

its very gritty, very detailed and worth going to see. ill probably go again.

I 2nd that W2ttsy, It was a very good movie, It had some pritty funny parts in it but also some parts that just make you clench the sides of your seat.

It was a very good movie in my opinion, I would reccommend it to anyone (except maybe those who get freaked out about seeing 'blood').

I saw it a few weeks ago and have to say that i was a bit disappointed.
I had read the book prior to seeing the film and kind of wish i had read it afterwards instead.
It seemed in the film that he kind of breezed through boot camp and became a marine too easily. I realise that time is a factor in films and only so much can be covered but i had the feeling that it wasn't realistic enough, after all becoming a marine would be no easy feat!
Aside from that it was a good film, it's no 'Full Metal Jacket' but still good in it's own right.

I must say I liked it,

I saw it when it came out here a few months ago. It was a bit hard for them to do much on basic training after Full Metal Jacket. The fact that the war part was focussed more on the soldiers personal mental battles rather than the actual fighting was very interesting. I found it quite refreshing compared to the numerous releases after Gulf War part 1, especially the terrible B grade efforts and the pseudo documentary of Bravo Two Zero. I know a bloke over here who served in the British armoured infantry in the first Gulf War, he said he couldn't really comment on the movie because he never really saw the Yanks until the US air force lit up some of his mates.
It is definately worth watching.

I thought it was fucking brilliant, I am also a blood-thirsty bastard and for a movie where there was sfa bloodshed I am amazed at how good it was. It was a lot like the TV series Over There, which in its self is amazing. A definite 10/10 and a must watch

The only problem was I never learnt who was who:o

I saw it just the other day too really sick movie in a good way, loved how it showed the mental problems of the soldiers, would have like a little more violence but yeah good movie quite funny in sections too

although there wasnt a lot of killing. there was definately alot of desire to kill in the movie. especially once they were in the desert, alot of the troops couldnt wait to kill something. an example would be at the end when kruger (the lead characters spotter) went spaz when his sniper detail couldnt take the hit they were assigned.

at the end of the day, the violence is not in seeing someones head sprayed across a wall (ala blackhawk down, saving private ryan) but to see the personal violence that affects the soldiers from a mental point. having to understand the idea of killing itself would be pretty violent in its own.
well thats my take on it.

i saw it a few months ago... hahaah all you in Australia have to wait hella long to see movies.

byt yes, i also thought it was very well done and did a superb job of portraying the psychological efects of war on a human mind.

I went to see it today and I have to say it was Great! The cinematography was amazing, the way the captured the contrast of the burning oil wells against the black sand etc was remarkable. They could of done a bit more on the boot-camp area, but as Full Metal Jacket did such a good job of it, Jarhead was always going to look second rate.

Getting off topic... In the cinema there was a guy that had brought his daughter along, she would of been 5 years old, I don't think Jarhead (MA15+) is the type of movie you take a 5 yr old along to!

apart from the swaring and sex, most of the footage is no different to that seen on CNN...

still, it was a top movie.

I thought the eerie lighting in the oil fields was reminescent (sp?) of 'Apocalypse Now'. And the scene where he runs into a horse was like something out of 'Thin Red Line'... and the boot camp section was so similar to 'full metal jacket' and there were some 'three kings' bits too.

Saying that though, I thought it was pretty good.

saw it the other day...
great movie...
amazing to see the stress they were put under..
A mate of mine served time in Kuwait... was pretty hectic from what he has told me... they were involved in combat quite often.. he laughed when speaking about Jarhead.. and said he wishes he had "THE PROBLEM" of not killing anyone while over there

Yeah i saw it the other day, from its trailers and stuff it was made out to be funny and almost light hearted. But it was so serious and realistic in parts.

It's amzing to see this guys point of view and how he "never even got to shoot my rifle..."

Very good film though, would recommend it.

i saw it satuday night with mates.

Pretty shit i thought.
i guess i had high expectations of the film really expossing the relative issues and themes associated with the war, politics, life, training and how these men cope.
The production side ie cinematography, edeting, set etc etc i thought was great, but i just couldent help thinking this film can expose and educate us so much more on this topic but instead of diving in like full metal jacket it just tested the water.

good but could be so much better.
3/5 stars for me (a yr12 media student btw bitches :p )
