Audio Editing Software

I just bought an iriver H10 recently which can record FM radio. I want to be able to record stuff off the radio like JJJ live at the wireless for example and then split on big mp3 file up into smaller tracks so that I end up with only the bits I want. What would be the best program to do this with that's free to download?

Sony Sound Forge 7.0 is a great program for sound editing, download it through limewire or sumthing like that for free.
