i've got a voodoo hardtail frame with parts off a bighit comp... it's running a derailler and chain guide and i'm thinking about converting it to single speed. what's involved with that? parts needed? cost? and what a good gear ratio to go with?

I'm fairly sure if you searched you would have came up with something :)
Your going to need a SS kit/or cassette spacers. You may also need a chain tensioner depending on tension. Lots of people like 32:16, but its personal preference. Just have a go at different ratios.

yep found enough for some inspiration. thanks for that.
if i don't have a horizontal dropout do i have to use some sort of tensioning device rather than running the chain straight round?

You could try and run it without a chain tensioner, by changing ratios to get a good tension, but if you can't find a good tension you like you will have to run a chain tensioner.

Whilst I agree with you, next time, say it nicer or it will be you in the shit.
