Just looking for some advice guys....

Looking at buying a bighit as my hardtail frame has cracked, I've found one and the owner advertised it as an 01 bighit,

I'll attach a picture of it just so you guys can see it.

I'm concerned about how much rear travel this particluar frame has. I want at least 8" and i know some of the early bighits came with 6"

I have a suspicion that the bighit i'm looking at buying is actually a 2002 bighit DH as it is the maroon one and i'm pretty sure the 01 bighits were blue.

IF it is the 2002 bighit as i suspect, can anyone enlighten me to how much rear travel it has. I checked the spec on the speciaized website and it say 8" for the 2002 DH and 6" for the 01.

BUT.... it looks like only 6" as the shock and the linkage don't look anywhere near as beeefy as the newer bighits..

can anyone enlighten me.....!

Yep, looks like an '02 Bighit DH, colour is actually called "Scab Red"....
Thats the DH linkage and shock, 8.1", the 6" one had a Vanilla R and different link.

Off topic question, but why did the 05 big hit downgrade forks and brakes from what looks like either LX or XT brakes to Nines and downgrade from Boxxers to Stance Kingpin?
Was it to save money or what? Or was it to make people buy the Demo series if they wanted a fully spec'd out bike and spend big bucks?

Pre Demo range the bighits were king shit and they were specked out as that. when the demo came in, they became king shit and becuase the bighit arnt. they dont get specked as well and same amount of design put into it.

why would you speck up a cheaper model to the same standard as your best one?

the pic dosnt work for me damn this computer:mad:

That big hit is very far from original spec
It came stock with shivers, hayes mags, double track rims
and a bunch of specialized brand components

That is still better than Kingpins, Nines and Single Tracks though

Maybe because the Bighit DHs were double the price of the newer ones? Duh.
